Sky have been taking double payments from me for 5 years!

    I informed them of a move of address and they didnt update their records. Surley a viewing card which had not beem used in 5 years is enough evidence that none of the services were being used?
    So you got a free install and new Sky box at the new address which you wouldn't have got if you had done a normal move.

    I'm afraid it sounds like you were trying to be clever and get some freebies off Sky by signing up as a new customer at the new address instead of just using the normal moving package. Looks like your cleverness has come to bite you on the arse.

    You are supposed to take your viewing card and box with you when you move.

    If your previous account was in your name and then your wife opened an account in hers, this would not have canceled your previous subscription as only the account holder can cancel an account (except in extreme circumstances, such as death), even if other people are named on the account as having an access right. I had rights to talk to Sky on my mother's behalf due to her being hard of hearing but they wouldn't let me cancel it over the phone when she no longer wanted it.

    Presumably your wife set up the account so that you would get a new customer installation and the benefits that go with it (free box, vouchers etc.)? In this case, you yourself should have still contacted Sky to tell them that you no longer needed the account in your name.

    You're unlikely to receive a full refund simply because it is not likely that an individual would not notice for five years that they are being billed twice. Even a court would have a hard time believing that. Press them enough and you may get a goodwill gesture but they're not really required to do this.

    I don't mean for this to sound judgemental, although I acknowledge that it probably will sound that way, but you really do need to pay a little more attention to your bank statements and the direct debits that you have set up on your account. I'm not blaming you as such, but years of paying something twice is a pretty severe oversight on your part.

    Would suggest a friendly but formal letter with evidence that you moved. As 5 years worth of payment is a large sum of money, the guy on the phone line is unlikely to have the authorisation to pay it back.

    My partner works in a call centre but not for sky.

    He quite often gives refunds if they were mis sold the service. He listens to the previous calls to check if what the customer saying is true.

    The likelyness is like some previous posters is that the OP didnt cancel the account. Sky may have assumed that you were just opening a new account. Lots of people do it for their kids at uni or if they are a landlord and want to have sky in their tennants houses or if they have multiple homes (like an MP) Sky cant read your mind that you want to cancel. You can ask them to review the recorded phone calls that you made with them to check what you said on both accounts however I think you were trying to get some freebies from sky like a previous poster suggested and this may be a breach of terms.

    Nope, Sky had two subscriptions for my old address from 2006 up until 2011. One of mine that was requested to be canceled and one from the new neighbors.

    But you didn't request a cancellation, according to your posts you simply informed Sky you were moving house and then had new account created in your wife's name, presumeably to garner a new customer deal.
