Sky have been taking double payments from me for 5 years!

Hey Guys, just some quick advice needed.

In 2006 I moved home and notified Sky of the move. However, they have continued to take £20 per month for an unused subscription at my old address for 5 years (accumulating to £1200) whenever this should have been canceled.

In 2006 I setup/transfered Sky to my new address. Since 2006 they had been taking payments for both my old address and my new address for the 5 years from the SAME BANK ACCOUNT.

I have phoned up Sky to query the matter, but they refuse to give me an honest refund for services that were not used. They claim that I did not cancel my old subscription, but yet they were happy to take a new subscription for my new home under the same bank account and continue to double charge me.

Any help or advice would be needed. I really thought they would do the obvious and honest thing and refund the costs.

    They weren't to know that you didn't have 2 properties, you should have notified them before now.

    so you took out a new subscription and didnt cancel the old one?
  • I had assumed that maybe the payments were being split into fortnightly payments or one was for telephone/broadband other services... but as it turns out the £20 charge I have been getting monthly for 5 years was infact for my old subscription at my old address.

    That doesn't make sense as when you move home you notify Sky and they don't open a new account but keep the old one and change the address on it .

    If you had a break -say you moved out of one property and closed the account (or not in your case) and then later moved into a new address and opened a new account then there would be no link between the old and the new accounts -but surely you noticed the double payments coming out ? No reason for Sky to query it as -as stated above quite a few customers have two accounts -when they have a second property like a holiday home.

    Old account was under my name.
    New account was under my wifes name.

    My wife had explained to them when signing up that we had moved home from the old address.

    how can you inform them of a move of address,then open a new account under a different name?
    how exactly is sky meant to tally the two?
    you opened a new account,so did you get a new customer install as well?

    What if the people in your previous address have twigged that they have free sky, and have been using it?
