Debit card with bad credit??

Are there any banks that will give me an account with a debit card when I have bad credit??
I have a nationwide current account but even though wages are going in there regularly they will not give me a debit card, I have even tried complaining and was basicakky told where to get off
Surley it's not such a great risk to give someone a card that can only be used while there is money in the account anyway.
any help would be great...at my wits end

Prob not as much use as other thread, but TSB gave me a visa debit after being with them for about 6 months, as I showed I could be responsible. Not that hard to live without a debit card for a little while I found, and was in better control of my cash.0

I went with the woolwich. they gave me an electron card that is accepted nearly everywhere... Mind you, they are turning into the Barclays brand soon, so watch for that..0

Woolwich have actually been part of the Barclays group for sometime now. Just the re-branding hasn't taken place yet.
Also for those after a debit card, have a look at the thread I posted.0 -
goto natwest and get a step acct. youll get a solo debitcard.0

Or, Yorkshire Bank for a full blown debit card (Maestro).
Best to check the thread that I linked previously though.0 -
Not a basic account but I opened a Reserve Savings Account at Natwest which offers a SOLO card... the downside I could not set up DD or have my wages paid in. The upside for me was it gave me the freedom to shop online and pay bills over the phones or online... I just regularly transfered money from my Nationwide Flex Account to this.
Now I am in the process of getting a Natwest Step Account, they have agreed I can have one but I have to show my Certificate of Discharge for my Bankruptcy in 2001. Just sent £60 to the court for this and then hopefully by the end of the year I will have a half decent account set up so I can ditch useless Nationwide!0 -
Nationwide are difficult about debit cards because they ONLY issue a 3-in-1 debit/cheque guarantee/atm card, nothing more. Other banks issue 2-in-1 Visa Debit/Maestro or Electron/Solo to customers that they won't provide a cheque guarantee card with.
I've submitted my suggestion to the directors that ATM cards should be phased out for those who can get both a card and a cheque book and dual function debit cards introduced.0
