Never, ever feel guilty about winnng comp prizes - it takes a lot of work, effort and let's be honest luck!:)

I've had the same thing with friends and family - most are delighted but there's some who just don't get the comping ethos. :(

Some think I'm mad/cheapskate and they love to have their little digs - ignore them, enter, win, share and enjoy - then just smile!:)

I don't feel bad at all. In fact, I enjoy it!

My girlfriend thought it was a bit weird.....until I gave her a free Spotify premium account through the Lucozade comp! :D

I don't feel guilty, nor am I made to feel so by friends or family. I explain how really not lucky I am - I enter around 1000 a month and win maybe 1 or 2 of them (I don't enter the little ones though - cash or stuff I can sell for cash is my motivating force - unless it's something particularly relevant to my interests - say craft stuff - I don't enter ones that aren't worth around £50 minimum on an easy sale).

I do get the 'you're so lucky' occasionally. I tell them it's not luck, it's determination. I schedule it into my day in the same way I schedule work tasks (I'm self employed) and its work that usually earns me a couple of hundred extra a month for about 20 hours work.

I do feel bad sometimes as I think people don't believe me when I tell them what I win, or like I'm showing off, but its just such a fab hobby! I can only encourage them and say that it does work if you stick at it. I do give away & share some of the items I win with family/friends and share holidays with people close to me.

I use to feel bad for winning things that are no use to me but now I'm a bit more select about what I am entering.

I think I'm on my 12th year of comping now, which is scary!!
    Whether we win or lose,
that we played at all was a winning decision. :D

I know what you mean. I started thinking I don't want to tell other people about my winnings - they either think I'm too lucky or that I am just spending my days attached to a computer entering all the comps I find (yes I spend some time comping but I also have a life, which most of the time they themselves don't have!!)

It's hard to admit it to yourself when it's family involved, but they are jealous. It's way easier to say "ah you're too lucky" than to put in the effort to win like we do. Just a few days ago I won a lovely dinner and hotel stay in London, I told my cousin and you know what she said? "What do you need a 4* hotel in London for if you live in London? I only use hotels to drop my bags".

............................So, really, just ignore them, or better yet...maybe don't tell them and enjoy your prizes!

I think we all get similar comments - its difficult as you are excited about a win and want to tell people (especially family) and sometimes it puts a dampner on the win.

I agree sometimes its best not to tell them.

(sometimes though you tell them to try and encourage them to enter)

No. How can you feel guilty about something which you have absolutely no control over other than not to enter?!

Congratulations on your winnings and if anything it inspires me to carry on entering!

I watched the lottery programme the other night about the effect it had had on winners. Very interesting. Some of them said that you cant win either way, the friends you had just want the scam the money from you or expect you to buy them things, pay for nights out etc, you have to be very careful to make sure they family members get the same amount given to them as they get jealous. Strangers are begging from you all the time, or breaking into your property etc, so generally its hard to live in the same area you used to. On the other side the people you start mixing with who have that sort of money look down on you because you have "won" the money rather than earnt it or inherited it, so think your not worthy, i imagine your stuck in the middle somewhere not really fitting in.

Ive only ever played the lottery a few times as im not sure i would like to win that much but do comp on about 1000 a month, have found that people look at you strangely, wonder why you do it. have the same old "I never win anything" comments. I tend to keep it to myself now, as it gets boring explaining it to people.

ah well, probably if I was on the outside looking in id probably think it was a little strange too....
