TV Licensing harassment letters

All of these accounts sound very familiar to me, as someone who's been helping people with their TV Licensing issues for several years now.
Although it is only a partial solution, write to the BBC's Head of Revenue Management. (The address is under complaints on the TVL website).
If she does not help, then you can appeal to her boss, and then to the BBC Trust. I would also copy my MP on these letters.
This approach should resolve all issues that stem from TVL incompetence.
Issues arising from BBC policy are a bit more of a problem. The same approach can be used, but ultimately if the complaint gets to the BBC Trust and they won't act, that is the end of it. The Royal Charter means that the BBC are not directly accountable to Parliament. Shameful.
I have a comprehensive complaint under consideration at the BBC Trust at the moment, and I hope to be able to publish a "best possible" legal solution within the next few weeks.0 -
I can't understand what all the fuss is about. Listen Crapita are a private company with absolutely NO authority at all. Just do what i do and totally utterly ignore them, period.
They still send me a letter every month and they end up where the rest of their letters end up, in the bin ripped to shreds.
It just shows how propaganda can get into people's psyche. You do not have to tell anyone who knocks on your door what your name is especially those creeps from TVL, just totally utterly ignore them and slam the door in their faces. They do not have warrant cards and are not the cops.
I'm going into the seventh or is it eighth year i have not paid for that license and never will again. God knows how many times i've been through the letter cycle now, i don't even open the letters.
You can have a house full of TV's but you only need to buy a licence to watch LIVE broadcasts. It's even been advocated on this site if you do really need a TV licence. If you watch everything an hour behind you do NOT need a licence as you are not watching LIVE broadcasts.
Stop worrying about the creeps and just totally utterly ignore them.
Notice how they assume you're guilty without any proof then YOU have to prove your innocence and when you do they still don't believe you, the scum that they are.
Just totally utterly ignore them. It really is that simple.0 -
That's worrying about crapita, they now do our local councils council tax and I'm trying to get a refund from them. Looks like I'll have to keep on at them.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0

What annoyed me was their assumption I was guilty until proven innocent . And their manner of speaking to you. They asked for my name-I refused to give it .none of their business, I think some people could find this scary.0

What is the point of this? Why not tell them to stop?
Why should anyone do anything? If you do absolutely nothing then you cannot be doing wrong. Continuing to do nothing is therefore also not wrong.
Also suspect from his post that driver8 isnt bothered in the slightest so no skin off his nose.0 -

I think you've misunderstood my post.
Of course you are not obliged to "assist them with their inquiries". In that context, ignoring them is absolutely plausible.
However, if no one complains about their behaviour it will (a) continue and (b) be replicated by other businesses of dubious moral/legal standing.0 -

The posts on this thread are hilarious, lots of people getting upset at Capita, and complaining becaue they've had "nasty letters" , or better still their 99 year old gran has had a "nasty" letter. Capita don't care, they are employed to collect licence money from homes which don't have a TV licence. Either pay up, or don't, you know the consequences , but why whinge about getting a computer generated letter ?0

Because the letters are offensive, because people are receiving them when they've done nothing wrong, and because some people get one every month - which is stupid and childish on the part of TVL-BBC.
Here's an example:0
