I had a smear last year that showed minor changed so had to have another 6 months later, that was week n bit ago. had results this morn and still showing minor changes, so theyve referred me to hospital for a colposcopy and if that shows more abnormalaties i have to have a local and the cells removed.
Im a single mum so dont have a partner to share my worries with, but my family n 2 best friends know, one has said shes gonna take me to hosp etc. The leaflet woth the letter said it isnt cancer and doesnt mean it will lead to etc, but that it needs investigating/treating.
No one i know has had this, so was just wondering if anyone had and could offer any advice/comfort lol.
Sorry if i sound pathetic, i just feel like its one thing after another in my life at the min-surely im due summat good by now lol x

hi zoemummy
1st try not to worry, its no worse than a smear they just have a look with a pair of binoculars & a lamp :rotfl:
its more the  than anything but just think its for your health & they see hundreds of womens bits every wk
i have a biopsy every time i go its a bit painful but no worse than a sharp pinch

I agree.
It's not top of my list of fun things to do, I remember bleeding slightly after the biopsy, but the colposcopy is just like smear except when I had mine there was a tv screen and it was a bit distracting being able to see your own cervix on a big screen!
You're a mum, if you've been through childbirth, this'll be nothing in comparison!
One tip, if you take some ibuprofen and/or paracetamol before you go it will help with any soreness/cramping afterwards.
You'll be absolutely fine. I've had several done over the last few years and it doesn't hurt. The consultant has a big lamp (like a reading one with a bendy arm) and a microscope and they have a good look around. They usually take another smear coz they can get higher up/into the corners easier - and if they can see any abnormal cells they give you a quick anasthetic injection inside which is just a small jab and take some samples, which feels like having a smear done with slight pressure. I've had 4years of going every 6 months and having abnormal cells and samples done which come back fine so I def wouldn't worry too much - altho I know it's hard. Don't forget to ask how long til you get results and do they send to GP or you directly. They use gel on everything so don't wear your best undies either!
I had a biopsy to remove abnormal cells and when the results came back they hadn't got them all so naturally I panicked but all that happened was I went back for another local procedure to burn off the cells - it doesn't hurt either is just a bit sore for a couple of days after but nothing worse than bad period cramps.
If you're worried PM me and I can give you more details than ppl need to read on here

Thankyou for replying, im happy to go have it done for my health n fory kiddies, and youre right after having kids everyones seen everything i got lol!!
I was hoping that the smear abnormalities were due to finding out my ex husband has given me chlamydia
and that as i had been treated for that the smear would come back normal. Oh well, the price of being a woman i guess.....
Have thought of one good thing, my son did his first wee on his potty today! His face when i was running round clapping and making a huge fuss of him was fab!
My best mate is brill, shes been amazing sincemy ex left, they both have! Couldnt ask for better xx0 -
I've 2 colposcopies and a loop biopsy, agree it's not on my top 10 list of things to repeat, but none were out and out painful, but they were quite uncomfortable... Take some sanitary towel with you as there may be a small amount of bleeding (poss not if just colposcopy). Oh, and you'll probably have to have smear tests ever 6 months for a while even if nothing is found. What with one thing and another, I've been on six monthly smears for about 10 years now...
Good to hear someone is coming with you.
Oh, and none of mine found anything at all in the least abnormal. Just minor changes that are natural and come and go.
Good luck!

to be honest i think the thought of it can be so much worse than the actual procedure, i had one when i was 19 and pregnant and i was terrified but it actually was all ok and just like a long smear, i was so embarrased about the thought of getting my bits out but little did i know what was to come in childbirth lol, so that was definately a walkin the park....:rotfl:
Also my results came back fine thankfully and then i had smears more often for the next few years and now they are ack to normal, so try not to worry too much, i think mine was described as mild dyskaryosis, but it is so scary as any abnormality sets of fears for the worst but wishing you lots of luck

I've had a few colposcopy's and had to have some cells removed via LLETZ.
The colposcopy's themselves are fine. They're just like smear tests, but a bit more thorough
I had one done week before last and they had it up on the screen so I could watch the action first hand  I have to say I wasn't that keen, even though the doctor kept pointing out 'interesting facts' about my cervix :rotfl:Metranil dreams of becoming a neon,You don't even take him seriously,How am I going to get to heaven?,When I'm just balanced so precariously..0 -
..ps I echo what other's have said in that if you can cope with childbirth, a colposcopy is a walk in the park!Metranil dreams of becoming a neon,You don't even take him seriously,How am I going to get to heaven?,When I'm just balanced so precariously..0

Lol, think ill take a book, or some sunglasses-really not interested in seeing my bits in HD! Xx0

Agreed with others that it's no big deal. A bit like a more thorough smear really. If they take a biopsy then there might be a small pang of pain as they grab the tissue, but nothing too major.0
