Why is this still on grabbit?Darren0

scoobie girl, difficult to make sense of the figures when ordering, I did use one code first, which was not accepted then used another code that was, had a response from amazon, they said I chose an express delivery at the check out which I certainly do not remember doing, wonder if they have twiged onto whats happening and are trying to recoupe some charges???
problem is, ordering online, I do not have copies or screen shots of anything so I can not prove it. As far as I can see the £8.64 is the cost of both books minus the offer of £8.74 which is the cost of the book and shipping, then they have charged the express shipping ontop of that! how do I prove I didnt ask for express shippng? why would I buy something for £17.63 for express delivery tomorrow when I could buy it from WHSmiths for £13.99 today!!! any suggestions???????0 -
I think what happened to you is what I think happened to me. I entered one code which gave me the free book, then entered the second which gave me an order total of £0.00 (I just wanted the free book, I didn't need free postage on other stuff).
I am 100% sure that when I placed the order the total was 0. When I check my history now it show as it was before I put in the second code.
I did complain, but like you I didn't take any screen shots or anything (it's Amazon for crying out loud, if their site isn't bug free then what's the world coming too!). Thier response included the statement
"Further please be informed that unfortunately, we can only allow
customers to redeem one promotional claim code per order. In
addition, some offers allow the use of only one promotional gift
certificate per promotion. Restrictions may vary, so we'd recommend
reviewing the "fine print" of your gift certificate."
So it looks like a bug let our baskets show as having accepted both codes, which is the prices we agreed to and thier software was done something bizarre (and probably illegal) later.
Sadly as we can't prove it I don't think we can do anything. Even if we return it we'll still get stung for postage.
Sadly the argument of why would I pay extra for something I could get cheaper on the high street doesn't work with them. I've tried it in the past. In the days when you could combine orders, in the 30 seconds it took me to get from the place order page to the combine orders page the item was showing as despatched.  I ended up paying £4 postage on a CD single. I complained and was told tough. Gits!
Your post has prompted me to complain again. Fair enough it was cheating to try both codes, but they should have been rejected and not increased the cost of the order0 -
I am even more fustrated today.... WHsmiths have reduced them to £9.89!!!!
aaarrrr!
I only tried the second code as the first coda did not work I didnt try and get an 'SCS style double discount!!!',
Ive checked my account and it does look like the express delivery was chosen, dont know how though, but then just under the £8.99 it says -£8.74, looking as though one almost cancels out the other but it doesnt as this includes the cost of the free book, I feel well miffed!:mad:0 -
Oh No!
Have you complained yet? It might be worth it if you've never used express delivery before.0 -
I just wanted to say that we used some of the sandwich recipes from the Hellman's book in order to use up the turkey and ham that was outstaying its welcome. We made some really tasty sandwiches using recipes from the book - that beat the old turkey and pickle/ham and mustard!
Thanks to Hellmans and to Amazon for a great offer - a useful little book with free delivery on it and another item ordered at the same time. :T0 -

I have sent an email as soon as I noticed it, they responded with a lengthy 'standard reply' and said its too late, express delivery was chosen and you have had that service.
If we dont want the book we can return it and get refunded the cost of the book but not original postage I assume! Ive emailed back, making exactly the point you mention, that in all our past orders we have never used the express option, had no reply yet, but due to the holidays Ill wait abit longer!! any luck with your complaint scoobiegirl??0 -
To be honest I stalled halfway through it's still in my Drafts folder! I'm going for the "you changed the value of my order and that doesn't sound legal" as my tactic!0
