staff meeting outside hours

There again - I work in a far better job than being employed in a sandwich shop, so who's having the last laugh here?
And if no one did this kind of job Misha then snobs like you wouldnt be able to get any lunch would they.
oh hang on i apologise. You probably pop to Claridges for your lunch dont you.
You may work in a better job or you may not but if i were you i wouldnt be tempting fate, not in this economic climate. Why the hell should pink princess lose out financially by going into work on her day off. Why should her doing her manager a favour cost her anything?
Oh and by the way Misha i pity you. Because by making the above comment you obviously need someone who you can feel superior to.0 -
Oh - a final point - I thought you said you were being paid to come in for this meeting??
Like I said before - could your manager give you a lift or a colleague?
With a defensive attitude like yours and an unwillingness to attend a meeting I'm not sure I'd want to employ you, personally - working mother or no, and contract or no.
to be frank Mischa, I don't think the Op has been at all defensive- as you previously stated, you ahd not read the entire thread- VERY early on in the thread the OP replied to mine and other comments about aking for a life from a colleague- she explained that this was not possible as they were all coming from different directions
I think some of your comments are rather rude and unnecessary and as for the comments about you being in a better job than the OP
so what?
by writing that comment, you have divulged more about your attitude and mentality than you may have wanted to -
your comments are unnecessary and irrelevent to the OP0 -

Classic example of someone who can't see the wood for the trees and reads only what they like.
What an abhorrent attitude you have. Just because you had been proven wrong you instead try to belittle someone, quite frankly that shows a lack of intelligence and how shallow you are.
I hope you are never in a situation where your job is at risk or you come on here for asking advice because I will be making sure every time you post I will remind you of your disgusting comment.0 -

This lady was unnecessarily rude in replying to me (even after I had said I had not read the whole of her post and when I sympathised with her. therefore why should I be nice back?!

Go right ahead. as Arnie said "make my day". :rotfl:0 -

So just because there are people wanting jobs you think its ok for him to be the way he is? I have checked my rights and I'm well within them to refuse. My daughter is not insured to be on the premises, so cant come with. Childcare is £4 an hour, 3 hour meeting + 2 hours travel = £20, my earning for the meeting = £17.79. I dont drive, trains and buses arent til 9am (time of meeting itself) at earliest and taxi on top would be extortionate. You seriously think I should go in after all that?
Also as others have noted, if I go once, he'll expect it to be repeated so its all or nothing. And being as there is not an option for next time I cannot attend.
See her responses to me above - if you think that's not rude and being passive aggressive then pardon me. see my original post where I was not rude to her. just stating a fact about jobs being a rarity out there.

( though I don't believe she was rude)
I didn't say she wasn't being passive aggressive
( though I don't think she was being passive agressive)
I DID say I didn't think she was being defensive - though with your vitriolic comments one could hardly blame her if she was.
I KNOW jobs are a rarity - so perhaps we should go back to the "olden days" when employers made unrealistic demands on people and summarily dismissed them for not agreeing to unrealistic and un-healthy working conditions?
No - I am sure NONE of us would welcome a return to those days - we would all be up in arms if our bosses DEMANDED we attend work whenever it suited them and had to have no regard for individual circumstances.
The more people like the OP's manager "get away" with making unrealistic and non-contractual demands of their employees the more they will try it on.
The OP is quite within her rights to simply work her contracted hours of employment - thats is what she wants to do.
in my opinion the OP has simply responded in a factual way to your rather insulting posts0 -

That response is in no way rude!
She was very nice to you - I'd have just told you to !!!! off; you obviously hadn't bothered reading the whole thread and your approach to people management leaves a hell of a lot to be desired.
Just because there is a rarity of jobs does not mean management can walk all over staff; particularly when laws have been made to prevent the very thing that the new manager is attempting to do.If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.0 -
Actually you had more than one person advising you to go in. or questioning why you would not go in, see 2nd and 3rd pages.
There again - I work in a far better job than being employed in a sandwich shop, so who's having the last laugh here?
Classic example of someone who can't see the wood for the trees and reads only what they like.
I had more than one person suggesting I go in, agreed, but the majority suggested not and overall it was concluded that I wouldnt attend. Difference was the people who commented either way had read previous posts and were up to date. You had jumped in with the whole "lucky to have a job" attitude without really absorbing what had been previously said.
can't see the wood for the trees and reads only what they like, you're a fine example for that by not reading the entire thread before putting your ten pence worth in.
And as for a far better job, :T for you? Even I've done far better jobs, difference is the jobs I did wouldn't now be suitable for a single working parent hence why I don't do them. The job in the sandwich shop gives the hours I want and I get to spend quality time with my child too so in essence I do have the better job because I get the best of both worlds, and get to raise my child with a good work ethic and not to be a complete and utter snob like you are. So the last laugh is had by all the others on this thread at you. :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:0 -

I think I've made my points here and have made the mistake of not reading through the thread. I apologise for that. I also apologise for making fun of your job - obviously it works well for you and your DD as a single mother and yes, how do I know what jobs you've done in the past?
I suppose coming from a background (PA related) we don't have a union as such and the one union I *do* know of isn't of much use (only got info about it from my stepdad, who works for the civil service.
My one bugbear (no, not aimed at you) is that all too often employees run to a union when sometimes there is no need for it, and the employer themselves can maybe think of trouble being caused by this happening.
I had no idea at the beginning you were a single parent and no form of other childcare available.
I was, as stated merely pointing out the lack of jobs out there and what I, personally would do above and beyond to keep my job. But it's my opinion, not yours.
I hope everything goes well for you in your job with this meeting happening or not and I apologise for offending you.0
