  • I'm not physically in til wednesday to speak to him. Will be calling him or our supervisor tomorrow to request a copy of my contract and to request reduction of this weeks hours for me to attend sunday as I just missed them this afternoon. Got to call my unions regional organiser back in the morning as it doesnt look like my company has a representative from the union. He has been away from the office today so needs to catch up on his emails before he can decide whats next.
    Pretty much everyone I've spoken to has said I shouldnt have to attend on a sunday morning, or a day outside my usual hour weekdays unless I'm available and happy to.

    I have spoken to HR this morning, they've said my daughter isnt insured to be on the premises when the shop is shut, they also said I cannot be disciplined or dismissed for not attending the meeting as I have a child who cannot go with me. We've agreed I shall go this time as it involves paperwork but I will not attend any further sunday meetings as its outside my days I work.
    Also had a reply from my union rep:
    .... However, I hope it would not come to that. It could be that this manager is trying it on and hoping that with a bit of bullying, he will get his own way. Obviously you should state that you are willing to meet during your scheduled working hours.
    So thats what I have :T

    As it involves bullying and both union and HR are on side for this, I would suggest you don't turn up and let the bully fall flat on his face....

    Next time he says "if you don't do <this>, I will have you dismissed", you would be able to say "remember what happened last time you said that?". Depending on the manager, having that in reserve might be priceless.

    Yes you'd think that wouldn't you but his attitude seems to be all for you, that he cant make one rule for one and another for the rest but I always thought good management is exactly that, you manage not dictate.

    I dont want to be difficult because I have the opportunity to. I have union and HR support but I'm not going to throw that at him after I not show up. The way I see it is this one time I will attend based on it being his 1st meeting, and that its important. But I am putting it into writing that I will not attend any further meetings outside my normal hours unless I:

    a) get the request in writing
    b) it is an acceptable day and time if it has to be outside my normal hours but weekends are unacceptable
    c) I get the time taken off my usual hours so not to mess with my hours submitted to HMRC.
    and d) I receive no form of harrassment should i be unable to attend.

    I agree. If OP turns up, then I actually think that to write what she suggests is picking more of a fight than not turning up at all. And I am suggesting saving any comment for if he tries it again.

    maybe as its his first 1 then maybe he wants to be sure everything is as it should be,

    first job i had we had any training, staff meetings out of work hours which was basically a sunday at 6 or 7pm,
