stressedoutmother wrote: »I've been doing the Superdrug feedback survey for about 6 months now. It gives you 10% off everything you buy though you must spend over £10. If you buy own brand products you get 25% off. I use their own washing powder which is 99p before discount and 75p after! I have 4 boys, do a lot of washing and have found it's a pretty good product. You can do this survey after each shop using the receipt they give you. I do it once a month and buy most of my toiletries/cleaning stuff there incl bleach, plenty rolls, MUA make up, and shampoo etc. Plus they do have some good offers on and these are discounted too. It has saved me loads!
Does anyone use the dryer-balls - I've heard they speed up the tumble drying?
that sounds brilliant do you have to buy online or can you get the discount in the shop ?0 -
I've only ever done it in the shop. But it works every time for me and all the shop assistants keep saying to do it again - so I do!0

instead of paying over the odds for a tiny bag of popcorn or a small limp hot dog once you're there.
(Use seefilmfirst for free viewings or the Orange 2-4-1 deal) for a cheap cinema trip - after all some films were made for the big screen! :cool:A slight spin on this involves a small coolpack, sandwich-sized and a freezer pack. Buy your cornetto-type or lolly-type ices at Iceland or A.N Other supermarket and sneak them into the cinema. Plenty of us gals have handbags big enough to hide a small freezer bag.:o I'm pretty amazed when I'm "up the city" to see a family queueing at an ice cream kiosk and paying £1.20-£1.30 for each ice, when they could walk into the city centre supermarkets and get a box of 3 or 4 for the same price as one from the kiosk. And then they can put the carton into the on-street recycling bin. Simples!
Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Hi, first post. This is a big one for most people, but when you're doing it it's a complete no-brainer and you'll make the biggest savings of your life. Ditch the car if you don't need one for work (ie. if you don't have a country pile, don't drive for your living and can walk, cycle or bus - with an annual bus pass). You can hire a brand new one for a weekend for less than £40. You don't need one to shop as you can carry a bag, tow a trailer, or order online. Regular walking, even a small amount each day, is better for you than the gym - more savings. Kids can be transported by bike or bus and they won't be fat either. I love driving out of town, but not having to drive every day makes me much happier, and I only use a car for pleasure now.0

I keep any left over boiled water from the kettle in a thermos flask. It comes in handy for odd drinks, small cleaning jobs etc. Also, after cooking in the oven I put a large saucepan of cold water in the oven and by the time you've eaten your meal the water is hand hot for using towards washing the pots. Only a small saving but the way energy costs are going, better than nothing.0

This is a fantastic thread! We just started making our own bread; also have a wee bean sprouter which can sprout a reasonable number of beans every couple of days - enough for a few salads or stir fries - and they're REALLY good for you; cashback websites are brilliant, definitely would recommend to anyone who shops online; and THIS website of course which is priceless!! All your tips VERY much appreciated by our wee household!0

My OH did the most lady like thing and stole my razor.....and now wont stop using them as the blades are cheaper than mens.
Same results, same frequency of shaves but just not the big macho mens razors.
Keeping the razor dipped in olive oil or alcohol stops the blades rusting and flaking (they dont actually go blunt so to speak the blades flake and peel when drying out, im not sure if this is the desired effect from the manufacturers so you keep buying more or just a result from being wet, covered in chemical gels and then being left to dry out)
Rust is another problem, especially for ladies with fine hair who don't need to change blades as often, giving them a good rinse and dipping in oil can prolong blade life by weeks.
If anybody has access to a microscope its worth taking a look at a used blade.0 -
Buying clothes in the sales. I don't think I've paid more than 50% for any clothes in the last 5 years. It might mean buying for the next season, and putting it away for a month or two, but our seasons are so messed up in the UK, that I find myself wearing boots in the summer and sandals in the spring sometimes!!
I recently bought a £55 top for £15 in Debenhams, which is going to be great for evenings or the autumn, and a £32 top for £12. They do fabulous sales, and you can always return items that don't fit.0 -
When you boil a kettle of water for a tea, but the water left over in a flask. It stays hot all day and can be used for more teas later, or for cooking.0

Bicarb also makes a very effective deodorant. Rub the powder into your armpits. I have bought it in bulk because it has so many uses.0
