editing of posts

Options
hi ive had my posts edited to change the perspective of how it was meant on a a post .
i have asked for an answer to why as it was not an offensive or bad post.

ive had no reply from mse on this.

i have now noticed today that mse has removed the posts where i questioned why my post had been edited and a few other members had mad valid posts and they have now been deleted.

why would mse do this ?
any ideas anyone ?

    Hi pwales

I've just posted this on the thread it happened on.

    Hi pwales/everyone

I'm working this evening and looking into what's happened here.

As you know, we do delete posts but don't edit (other than to posts that are being included in the weekly email to add additional info) so this shouldn't have happened.

The Forum Team members, ie Forum Team 1, 2, 3 etc don't have any presence on the forum - they don't post and their private messages are switched off so if you sent a PM they won't have received it. Any queries need to go to forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com, which is what I believe you've done.

Could someone let me know which post numbers were deleted then reinstated please?

    Thanks!

    Andrea :)

pwales. This has happened to me before, whole response post deleted. I got into a heated argument with someone. I was furious at first, because of how I was feeling and got myself worked up about it. Calmed down and thought it's not the end of the world, and didn't even bother asking about it. Annoying, but not worth stressing over.

  • Hi pwales,

Yes, I've spoken to the Forum Team member. He made a mistake. He misunderstood the first post when it was first reported.

As we ask people to report queries about our decisions to forumteam@ - so they don't take threads off topic, - when people reported the posts questioning the editing he quite rightly removed those too.

When more reports came through and he realised the error he reinstated them.

We're sorry this happened to your post, it was a genuine mistake.

Our Forum Team are fantastic at their jobs considering the size of the forum now and mistakes will happen.

    Hopefully that clears it up.

    Take care

    Andrea :)

This was not the only thread that it has happened on, plus the additional post removals were done after pwales had messaged the Team. More misunderstandings?
    Gone ... or have I?
  • Sorry dmg24, I don't understand the connection.

Posts that take threads off topic are usually removed when they're reported.

I'm not sure what this has to do with the time pwales emailed?

I think you're possibly assuming the Forum Team acts on reports the moment they reach our system? They're not, they're looked at in the order they come into the system ie chronological order to ensure we look at the oldest first.

Anyway, I'm happy to talk more with pwales about this if he/she likes.

The other posts were removed for going off topic? The editing made the thread go off topic how did anybody ever think that more editing would make the thread go less off topic?

Sounds like you're saying all posts removed were reported then? For wondering what on earth was going on?

All a bit of a mess to be honest.

    hi mse andrea,
if it was just human error then fair enough i except that that can happen.

but the editing would only happen if someone reported it , is that right ?

if a moderator just edits on the basis of a "report" without fully reading the post, then maybe not moderator material ?

this could of been sorted by a email or pm or post on the thread,

it was the lack of communication that bothered me just as much as why a post like this would be seen bad enough to edit?

thanks for the reply on the problem

You have ignored my point that it has happened on other threads also, so seems to be more than a misunderstanding. Indeed, it has happened today ...
