Euro try and do as natural as possible unless you need the medical intervention...after a section you seriously cannot bend or turn.....its the worst thing when your baby is crying in the hospital cot and all you can do is buzz & wait for a midwife/nurse to come and hand you your baby:(
The emotional effects of a section is far worse then the physical ones imo!

for a natural birth, you're right your body kind of takes over and you just have to go with the waves of pain....its the best kind of pain you can have(obviously I'm only talking about labouring..I'm too posh to push dontcha know!:rotfl:)

Yeah, I've been warned that a c-section is nowhere near as easy as it is made out to be in the press at times!

I saw my SIL recovering from it after she gave birth to the twins too, as they all lived at my parents for the first 6 weeks so they had extra support. She was in so much pain, and their eldest was only 18 months so she was always trying to hug Mummy, and then getting upset that she couldn't, which upset Mummy, not to mention the physical pain etc etc. Poor love, and the wound got infected, leading to more pain and recovery time.

She seemed to be back on her feet so much quicker with the natural birth. So, I really, really want it to be natural. I just hope they aren't breach like my eldest neice was. The hospital insisted she have a c-section because of it, and then insisted that she needed a c-section with the second child because of the damage done by the first one!

So, future baby Morris', even though you have not yet been created, none of you are to be breach! You hear that?! :rotfl::rotfl:

If they're anything like their father, I've no hope! :rotfl:

If bubs does end up breach, you're dilated enough and they have over 1min to decide how its coming out they might give you the option......I could've given birth vaginally(wonder if the filters will get that?) but she was butt 1st(breach doesn't always mean feet 1st;)) bent with head and feet towards the ribs() and either way there was going to be damage so I opted for the tearing the surgeons could control...otherwise my foof would end up looking like a cauliflower and Lottie would've been destined to be an only child as I doubt DH would've gone near me again
    :rotfl:
re: worrying about childbirth while pregnant, you have the odd "oh poo" days.....but really there's no point, baby has to come out and the longer you spend worrying about it the more it'll build up in your head and scare you:)

Oh crikey! That does sound like it would've been very, very painful!

But, you're right. There's no point worrying about it, what will be, will be. But I do think it's also good to talk about this stuff and realise the possibilities, so it isn't a total shock if it happens. And definitely good to get some insight from those with experience (ie you) :D

I figure that if I am prepared for it, it will be easier to cope with, and won't seem so scary anymore.

Yea thats what i'm trying to think. Once its in there there really is no choice lol. Just go with the flow. And women have been giving birth for ever and ever and most have survived. My huge fear is bleeding badly afterwards and me dying from it. But yea natural all the way for me. My body knows what it's doing even if I don't! LOL.

I'm happy to bang on about [STRIKE]giving birth[/STRIKE] labouring:p, I'm really proud of myself for how far I got before intervention I thought I was a huge wimp but apparently not:j
I highly recommend watching OBEM while getting close to due date....you scoff at these people and say "I'm gonna do this & that" and when in labour the stubborness in you comes out and you just crack on.....also helps if you have a firm midwife for when you do waver slightly:o:)
and discussing the grossness of it now really helps!!! After what DH saw its a miracle he still sleeps with me:D

Hi folks - have been lurking recently! DS is 8 months and DH and I have been talking about when to try again so have been watching the thread with interest and seeing many names who were on the PG thread while I lurked there (Hi :j.......ok that does make me sound like some sort of weirdo stalker. Am not really - just don't post much.

I had DS natural delivery - gas and air and 1 pethidine shot (apparently I was sleeping in between contractions which were less than 1 minute apart). I had to be cut due to his size though the midwife did say that if he had been smaller then the perineal massage I did would have worked! Apparently I recovered very quickly from it all. I wasn't too keen on a c section to be honest as I hate the idea of needles in my spine or of being put to sleep!

Being scared or even just apprehensive of delivery is normal - I cried my eyes out in DHs arms one night totally convinced I wasn't going to be coming home with my baby cos something would go wrong. In the end I had a textbook labour and delivery (which was good cos pregnancy was rubbish). Apparently I am now talked about in the hospital as the woman who had the 10lb 10oz baby naturally with no intervention so baby size is no indication of what will happen. Your body knows what to do and while some people need a little bit of assistence it doesn't matter. At the end of the day the main thing is the safety of you and your baby - and by golly its well worth.....

    ......though I wasn't thinking that at 2am this morning.....:D.

I've rambled - my apologies, Just putting in my experience. Yes it hurt - won't lie about that - but it can all go well too!

Hi and Welcome Nephthys! And thanks for sharing :D

Wow, 10lb 10oz! How did you manage that?! lol

I thought you were awake during a c-section? Or does it differ depending on the situation?

I think it depends. If you haven't had an epidural and there is no time or other such circumstances then the fastest thing is to put you out under a general. If you have had an epidural/spinal block etc then its easier. I could be completely wrong about that! No idea as not had one! Please someone correct me if that's all wrong - don't want to scare people with incorrect knowledge!

I think I found it fine as I went in and when asked about a birth plan I just said to go with the flow and we'll see what happens. Midwife was happy with that and so were we. If I was basing having a second on the delivery then no problem. Its the pregnancy and the associated problems that are making me hesitate! (although I still want one - just having to let my body recover before we try).

I think you may be right. An epidural needs to be done a certain amount of time before I think. I'm sure one of the more c-section clued up ladies will fill us in. :)

How was your pregnancy then? Did you suffer with morning sickness a lot? Or some other issues? Being pregnant is actually something I'm really, really looking forward too. Though I may change my mind when I have a mini person kicking my kidneys! lol
