Child benefit to go in 2013?

My wife looks after the children and home eds them. So we are already saving lots of money for the government!
So is there a reason why she cannot get a part time job? Plenty of people home ed and work.I'm sorry I do not understand your post.
If you cannot afford to lose £2500, why are you giving away £3800?Gone ... or have I?0 -

Oh right I understand what you mean now. Thanks for making it clearer. My tithe is gift aided and I understand that when I was in 20% bracket there was no benefit which I could accrue. However, in the 40% bracket I think I can claim back something which may drop me below the threshold for losing CB.???0 -

You are missing the point - you have two very simple means of finding the income that you will lose with the CB changes. You appear unwilling to consider them, but instead you are trying to find ways to massage your figures in order to claim benefits?Gone ... or have I?0 -

She does work very hard, she just doesn't get paid for it.0 -

I think the changes to child benefit are a bit daft. I'm currently trying for a baby and when it does happen I'll be able to claim child benefit and between Hubby and I we bring in £60k.
So our household income is more than the OP's and we'll be able to claim whilst he can't. Even though I'm one of the people that is still able to benefit from the change I'm happy to admit that it's very, very daft.0 -
Maybe it's something like the prohibitive costs of childcare?
P.S. That comes across as blunt but it is not said with any attitude. I am literally just making a suggestion
Ten hours a week could be something as simple as two evening shifts in a call centre/ pub/ restaurant - sounds like a great opportunity for some bonding time with Dad?Gone ... or have I?0 -
I have just recently reached the threshold to enter the 40% tax bracket and have been informed that my child tax credits will stop.
IN 2013 I will stand to lose another £2500 p.a. when child benefit goes for higher rate tax payers.
My wife is a stay at home mum so has no income and we really depend on that money.
I have heard that if you are just within the 40% bracket then it may be possible to hang on to child benefit payments from 2013 if you increase pension contributions or charitable donations.
Does anyone have any ideas or links as to how to do this? Also is there any indication as to what income will be used to assess the CB cut? will it be 2012 calendar year or 2012/2013 tax year?
Thanks
JGC
Zagfles posted an extremely good link a couple of days ago which details how difficult it will be to implement the change

As so many factors are still unclear, (eg the legal position re independent taxation, the higher rate tax banding in 2013, what will constitute taxable pay) I think you are a little premature in trying to plan anything at the moment.0
