I'm not paranoid. But I do think it's all part of The Great LCD Conspiracy.

This has been confirmed by my spirit guide, Big Chief Martin Rides High.

Asda woman said they were reducing their tv's tomorrow as well. Salesperson had handful of new labels but was very cagey about showing them.

    One to watch certainly

Oh I'm so glad I resisted buying one from there last night!

I'm after a crt telly, and they had a 28" 4:3 tv for £99, can't see that coming down too much tho. But if the £159 widescreen one drops tomorrow, I'll be there like a shot!

    Hmmm.

    Interesting read.

Now - are we being conned into digital revolution by statements such as these?

    This was quoted LAST year.
It's official: digital is taking over

    11 December 2005

CHRISTMAS is going digital as sales of music players, flatscreen TVs and cameras with the technology soar. Stores are selling twice as many digital products as last year. pixel.gif

IPOD GENERATION: Experts predict that next year will see the end of analogue products

The number of MP3 players bought has tripled, while digital radio sales are up 82% since Christmas 2004. Sales of flat-panel LCD or plasma TVs, tuned to digital signals, have risen by 75 per cent and digital cameras by 20%.

A spokesman for John Lewis department stores said digital sales figures were up 102% on last year.
Electricals director Dan Knowles said: 'It's going to be a digital Christmas for many, with MP3 players, digital cameras and plasma TVs all exceptionally popular this year.'

At Dixons, sales of digital devices have overtaken old technology such as analogue radios, video recorders and cathode-ray tube TVs.
The group, which includes Currys and PC World, is likely to stop selling analogue entertainment products next year. MP3 players will be the biggest-selling electrical Christmas gift. Apple's iPod and mini iPod nano are the style winners.

But players from brands such as Sony match or beat the iPod on performance and price.
Bryan Magrath, marketing director at Dixons, said: 'Consumer electronics have advanced dramatically in a short space of time - the image quality of digital cameras has tripled, gaming consoles have become a lot more powerful and MP3 players have become more compact.

'Shoppers are getting far more technology for their money.'
This month, 500,000 digital radios will be sold, taking the total to 3m according to the Digital Radio Development Bureau's predictions.
A spokesman said: 'Sales are running ahead of expectations. We are predicting that 20m will be sold by 2009, covering 40% of the population.' High prices have previously put off shoppers but radios such as Dixons's Alba brand, can now be bought for as little as £39.99.
The most-wanted computer games consoles are Sony's PSP and Microsoft's Xbox 360.

But a shortage means supplies have slowed.
Some 20% of all electrical goods will be sold via web stores this Christmas - a key factor in the growth of Internet sales.
A survey by Tesco found five times more shoppers over 50 are buying digital electrical items than last year.

MP3 players at under £50 and digital cameras are top of their list.
Age Concern director general Gordon Lishman said: 'Most older consumers will go out of their way to get a good deal and as more over-50s become Internet savvy they are looking to find the best digital bargains.'
'In 15 years time half of the adults in Britain will be over 50, so an increasing proportion of all consumer goods will be bought by this segment of the population.'

Hamish Thompson of Dixons said: 'Some 85 per cent of the products we are selling today are digital, the MP3 players, digital televisions, DVD players. These are all based on technology that works together.
'I think we will go 100% digital at some point during 2006. Some 80 to 85 per cent of Currys' TV range are now flat panel. 'It is a matter of time until they take over. Prices have come down hugely, taking them from luxury items to commodity products.'

Digital television is reshaping our expectations of home entertainment. About 30 channels are available via TVs or plug-in set-top boxes. Digital radio has access to more stations. In London, there are 51 compared to about 26 via analogue.

. . .but despite everything, the CRT TV survives. And despite everything, give me a car without computer mapping and engine management any day. Hell, I even long for wind-up windows! :rotfl:

  • Ok, so we all know that paying £399.00 for a flat screen is being cheap ... but how about the flat screen you bought last year.... I think you paid about £1000.00, and it's starting to "get on a bit ", heh, technology is moving too fast for me to keep up...£399.00 sounds ok to me , I,ll be changing it in about 3 years time for a newer style, mabe by then we will know what is best, what type of HD we will be viewing?, is lcd the best buy?, will plasma improve in longevity? !! Answer all this then maybe then we will want to put serious money down.
P.S If this is a rebranded ferguson , you can't go too far wrong surely?
