Can I make a suggestion? I was thinking would it be a good idea to have a poll or something on this thread for people who have bought these tv's to give their opinion on quality, sound, picture etc so that it would help others in deciding if they should get one.
I like many other's I'm sure don't have the time to wade through 122 posts to read the views, thoughts and experiences people have on theses tv's. A poll would give a basic quick guide for people considering buying.

    That's a good idea.

Are you going to start one?

I don't know how you start a poll. Never done one before, so if someone else likes the idea and knows how to, perhaps they could start one off.

Buying an LCD TV is like making love to a beautiful woman...you just can't wait to uncover it and mount it as soon as possible.

And a CRT is like your wife...old, not as good to look at, dependable and just gets on with the job...sometimes.
  • Folks please do a little research before you hand over your hard earned £'s.
Please do read the "Which" magazine or any other independant reviewer of TV's or any other major electrical item. There is much more than price involved. There is quality of picture, sound, reliability etc.If after research it turns out to be a good one, and you miss out, guess what they will be back again.
  • https://www.directtvs.co.uk is a great site for cheap tv's. We've just purchased one and couldn't fault the service so far, although the telly isn't available until tomorrow. We've already purchased a laptop from their sister company https://www.laptopsdirect.co.uk and had a great service. They emailed us with details of directtvs.co.uk and it's the cheapest we can find. Keep your eye out for offers - we've just got a 32" telly from them for £299, although looking at their website, I can't see it on there now - not surprised!
  • No I think you're missing the point. If you are moving from a fifteen year old CRT with fading picture, and like many of the advantages to an LCD, but cannot afford £800+, then a £400 LCD from woolies or Argos or wherever IS an upgrade.
I think your missing the point. A new CRT world be an upgrade not just LCD.

Yes indeed! And 28-32" models are v. cheap at the moment. Buy a new crt and enjoy that rather than spend loads on lcd - particularly if you're only going to put it on a stand. The lcd on a stand plus dvd/vcr/skybox has near enough the same footprint as an crt with boxes underneath. Enjoy a better picture and put the saved cash to better use :D

OK Folks a couple of quick points then lets get back to the details of the TV rather than this

    1. If there are two DVD players and one is £30 and the other £80. The £80 one isn't automatically better, it is automatically more expensive. This is simply retail hypnosis.

    2. This site is about MoneySaving which includes bargains not top tech technology. These TVs. Yet they are not best spec. However if you want a 32" functional HD ready LCD TV these are at a very good price - far lower than anything we've seen before.

    3. The idea that as they have no in-built receiver they are out of date is nonesense. They can be used with a standalone receiver - which these days are very cheap - and also can be separately upgraded.

    4. 80,000 people have read this thread in a day, that's more than everything else in this week's email. There is obviously a demand for TV's at this price. I include information which people want to be aware of - in fact the note for the email says "Two thirds of top tips close within a week! The free weekly e-mail ensures you don't miss out." These are short supply low price pre-Christmas deals - i think I'm doing exactly what I promise to.

    5. Of course people need to check these TV's suit their needs - the same with everything - yet the key to this site is price. In the same way as "customer service" isn't incorporated into the financial articles - only rate is (unless its so dire as to be unfunctionable). If you want qualitative product reviews may I suggest Which? or any TV mag. If you want price based issues then welcome to MONEY SAVING EXPERT (the clue's in the title!)

    6. Should people buy these if they don't need them. No absolutely not. Which is why I very deliberately included my money mantras in the first post - this is a far more expensive item than i usually detail and i thought it important to detail that.

    7. This post is in a chat forum. I deliberately invite reply, comment and feedback by doing this in a chat forum so people can discuss the relative merits of the product and their experiences of it. That's the beauty of this site.

Frankly if this doesn't make sense and you don't like this policy then I'm really sorry. In that case my suggestion would be the best thing is to stop getting the email and not use the site anymore as I don't intend to stop doing it. And of course Im happy to offer you a full refund of every penny you have paid me/the site to use the site, the info and gain the email.
