Citibank US$ Account Transfer

Hi
I have a citibank us$ account and need to transfer some cash to it.
I have created a bill payment from my santander current acccount and also barclays. I have transferred £10 from each od these accounts but it hasnt arrived yet.
Barclays use faster payments and santander does not.
The transfers have left. When creating the transfer I specified my citibank us$ account number (8 digits with zeros removed) and the sort code is 30-00-45. The reference was specified as my name.
Is this going to work. The santander payment was made a few days ago and the barclays one a few minutes ago. None have been credited yet.
Thanks
Darren

Is it not the IBAN code you need to use when transferring abroad? It is a bit longer than the account number and sort code but they are part of it. I think the extra digits are to identify the overseas bank or something.0

Expanation here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/International_Bank_Account_Number
I just read your first post again. Is the Citibank account an overseas account or is it actually held in the UK but denominated in $?
Has the Barclays faster payment not showed up yet?0 -
I'm surprised nobody else has added to this and I don't know that much about these things. I wonder if maybe you'd get better response over in the forum that deals with bank accounts etc?0

When I moved to the US I used TorFX to transfer money.
I looked in to transferring directly between bank accounts but the fees were large and the exchange rate pitiful.
The fees alone were more than £10!0 -
Hi
The money hit my citibank acct today which was exactly 3 working days. The exchange rate was good however. I got 1.642 which was close to the headline rate of 1.64 when I got up this morning.
I suspect the barclays one will hit later. Its a pity they dont take faster payments but I can work with this. I'll transfer the rest of my money on Thu 12th as I go on holiday on the 19th to make sure I get it in the acct on time.
Did I read somewhere that I cant use my CB card for buying gas in the US.
Thanks

I presume that your US dollar account is with Citibank in London. In which case, I am surprised that you didn't open a sterling account with them as well. Then it would be simple to transfer money into the sterling account, and then do an on-line transfer to your dollar account with them. The process of moving money between different Citibank accounts takes seconds, and the exchange rate is not too bad.0

You need a US Zip code on any credit card to use at the gas pumps, Any UK issued debit will 'run' as a credit card in the US not as a debit so you will need to sign in stores not use your pin.

agree that you need a US zip code to pay at the pumps - but you can go inside first - pre-pay $XX on whatever pump you are on...and there you go...if you pre-paid for too much you can go in and they will give you a refund for the difference back to your card.....I normally undershoot what I think I will need slightly to avoid having to go back in.
So you could use your card to buy gas - just not pay at the pump...and since some petrol stations require you to pre-pay or swipe a CC to start the pump - it's a bit more fiddly.Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0
