That's what we used for DD. We tried everything and eventually somebody suggested Kamillosan which worked a treat. We used to buy 6 packs of it from our local chemist as it worked out cheaper but it was a life (sanity) saver.
I think the honest answer is that different things work for different kids, some people swear by Sudocrem, some metanium, but neither worked for us.
Thankfully DS appears to have an iron bum that needs no cream."We act as though comfort and luxury are the chief requirements of life, when all that we need to make us happy is something to be enthusiastic about” – Albert Einstein0 -

My mum did this for all her kids too, and i have to say I use it on my kids too now - once it dries, it creates a barrier so the poo can't irritate the rash any further. Great stuff and terribly MSE too!Busy mum to 3 gorgeous girls0 -
I'd quite like to know why Oilatum is bad for nappy rash as well, I thought it was widely recommended to go in the bath when babies have eczema?Snootchie Bootchies!0

Well after an hours wait at the docs cos of a mix up on their system, doc saw us and has presecribed an antibiotic steroid cream. Lil man decided to poop while we were waiting so i had to nip into onsite chemists and get nappies and wipes quick! hes also pooped again when i put him to bed, so again 4 in a day. told doc and she requested a 'sample' to send off to be checked. OMG sooo dont envy the person who has that job!
Hes seemed a little more comfortable this evening, so fingers crossed this one works!0 -

All of these are good ideas - do not use steroids on broken skin! I too wonder if it has become infected with thrush. If so, nothing but anti-fungal cream will work and indeed some may make it worse. Health visitor or pharamacist can advise, and most HVs can prescribe (for thrush, not ordinary nappy rash)0

I was under the impression that it forms a barrier on the skin to prevent evaporation and further dehydration - it mostly consists of liquid paraffin. Obviously washing with anything that contains detergents is a bad idea and you're right about Aqueous cream, as it contains sodium lauryl sulphate.
Under normal circumstances Oilatum is a great emoillent for dry skin / atopic eczema and I prescribe it a lot for children within the community but I would not use it in this situation if the skin is breaking down/possibly infected as it could cause additional irritation.0 -
It's time to get him away from nappies now, he's 2 and 1/2?
I had a nightmare trying to get my daughter away from breast feeding, it's hard when they winge about things but it's for the best.
Just leave him longer and longer without a nappy on, he'll get used to it. Keep the potty very closeI’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Old style MoneySaving boards.
