need help with nappy rash!!!

Options
my poor lil boy has always suffered from quite severe nappy rash, especially when he's teething, well he's 2.5yrs now and i think he's just cut the big teeth, but has also had a bit of an upset tummy, so not a good combination for his poor bum!!!

I took him to the doctors a couple of weeks ago with the nappy rash as he was screaming in pain with it and they prescribed 1% hydrocortisone to apply twice a day.

I thought we had cleared it up, but last night he started crying and tensing when i picked him up to comfort him-knew straight away he was sore again. Took his nappy off and there was a big red patch on his balls (sorry tmi!!), which despite having the hydrocortisone, and metanium/sudocrem layered over the top as doc recommended just isnt healing. He had an hour of nappy free time this avo as when i tried to clean him after poop the sore area started to bleed.

Am thinking im gonna have to take him back to the doctors again as he cant go on like this, it's heartbreaking to see how much he suffers with it.

Anyways, my question is, can anyone recommend another cream than hydrocortisone/sudocrem/metanium??? Im sure i was told that the steroid one can thin the skin with prolonged use, and its definately a sensitive areas lol. was also wondering if it would be worth trying stuff like oilatum junior for the bath and the lotion to ease around that area, or would that be an expensive waste of money. I just wanna make it better!!!!!

I';m not sure how severe my nappy rash was, but my parents swore by using beaten egg whites on me. Google it to see if there's any any extra info on it.

Can't you leave the nappy off him full stop. Perhaps put some sort of covering down on his play area for accidents, as getting fresh air to his bits is the only way it will heal.

My 2 have both got skin conditions and used to get terrible nappy rash. An old tip from my mum worked - I boiled up pearl barley, cooled the barley water then gave them it to drink , usually mixed with diluting juice so they would take it, it used to cool the rash down overnight.

i find Sudocreme to be very drying on the skin on my little ones bottom and er bits!He has always been a very frequent stinky pants (daughters phrase not mine!) and so is often sore especially when teething and then he gets loose too (oh the joy!). We find Bepanthen to be very good. Sending soothing vibes!

tbh i dont like sudocreme either, never have with either of my 2, but the doctor prescribed it to go over the hyrdocortisone one. ive been looking on boots.com at all the different creams and the weleda calendula one seems good as its more natural, but i just dont know lol!!!

This is way tmi but after a colonoscopy I was given sudocreme in hospital to help with healing a sore btm, and it hurts like mad to use. I've never used it since. I believe bepanthen has a numbing ingredient as well as antiseptic so it deals with the pain and heals the broken skin nut have also never used that.

We were given a combo to use when DS was in hospital with constant diaharea and his bottoms was in ribbons, it was metanium and orobase, and coupled with only using olive oil and sterile gauze wipes to clean him, cleared it up in less than 24 hours. Hth

lol!Bepanthen is really good stuff. I have also been known to use Kamillosan which is a soothing ointment for sore nipples when breast feeding, that works well, was found more recently in Hubbys glove box as he'd been using it for his chapped fingers (hope his friends didn't see!!:rotfl:).

Really hope you find something to help the poor little chap.

Poor chap. Try a cream with a high content of calendula (derived from marigolds) - very soothing . I think there is one by Nelsons.
