So why were they told this - oh don't tell me I suppose they are liars too!!
There are liars on this thread but I am not one of them
Why don't you have a look at the provision of social housing in your area, the priorities/points awarded, how the allocations are decided etc etc etc, then just post a link which shows that employment would negate any such points/priority and, in so doing, any allocation.0 -
My facts in this case are from a published report investigating the issue, I provided a link to the same.
It clearly states that less than 10% of social housing tenants are non-UK born.
So, where do you get your facts from? Oh yes, your husband, who says that tenants are 75% immigrants, and all get free furniture and appliances... and its all a conspiracy.... the government is in cahoots with the several million people who are benefitting from these 'golden plated'
tenancys to keep it all hush hush.
I get my facts from people who work for housing associations. Maybe London is different and therefore the figures for the whole of the country balance out although somehow I doubt it.
I know my husband is not a liar neither is he a racist. Facts are facts. I know they get free furniture and appliances - how do you supposedly know they do not? I saw with my own eyes kitchen appliances almost brand new in a skip belonging to one of the housing associations he worked for.
He was the one with the list of the tenants, going round to a lot of them so I think he would know whether they were immigrants or not. The ones that can speak english were only to quick to tell how little time they had been here and how they had been giving housing, furniture, kitchen appliances etc.
He left because he was sick of the money wasted on people that are not the slightest bit grateful for what they get. Always moaning that they want more, they don't like the shade of yellow they chose for their kitchen so they want a different shade, the washing machine does not have a fast enough spin speed so they want a better one. They are not close enough to the shops, they are not in the best bit of Chelsea, Islington or wherever. They only have 3 bedrooms but really they want 5. The pay £100 a week but they only want to pay £20.

This is correct.chewmylegoff wrote: »The two aren't mutually exclusive. Nationwide you could have 90% uk born and in London you could have 75% immigrants.
I expect there are quite a lot of immigrants in social housing in London. What would you have the local authorities do? They don't control immigration, they have to deal with the consequences.
I am still happy with my posts, the factual content, and my general contribution to the debate, for the purpose of balance

I think we would all like a better washing machine, lower housing costs, bigger house, nicer area, more amenities, etc etc etc. Why should social housing tenants be any different?0 -

Why would I need or want to? My friends live in my area and they have spoken to the council and to housing associations and have been told not to bother putting their names on the list because they stand no chance because they work. The fact that they both earn minimum wage and that the rent on their rented house is high does not come into it.
Is it so hard to believe that people tell the truth? Social housing nowadays is rarely for hardworking decent people whereas it used to be.The world is over 4 billion years old and yet you somehow managed to exist at the same time as David Bowie0 -

Maybe because they don't pay for it? The majority do not even work so have not even contributed in this country.
If you moved into a house with a washing machine that was only 6 months old but were given a brand new one would you complain?
Your argument makes no sense at all but, as I said previously, I think you are a social housing tenant who has received all these things which is why you think it is okThe world is over 4 billion years old and yet you somehow managed to exist at the same time as David Bowie0 -

If it's the truth, it should be easy enough to evidence. I don't doubt that your friends have been told that they have no chance of securing social housing given their current circumstances. That is a product of limited stock and inflated demand. However, their employment is not a factor in either. Like I say, if you can be bothered to do a little research, you will find a more reliable version of the truth.0 -
It is not because they work then. It is because they are already adaquately (albeit expensively) housed. Why would I need or want to? Anyone (whatever income from whatever source) in the same situation would be told the same.
Unfortunately the only way to jump up the list would be to become homeless - unintentionally. We cannot change anything unless we accept it. Condemnation does not liberate, it oppresses. Carl Jung
