This is how it works....
An immigrant family is given a council house.
The house gets new carpets and floor coverings fitted throughout.
The house is then redecorated even if it doesnt need to be.
The van turns up with, Bedroom furniture,beds,bedding,matresses,curtains,wardrobes,3 piece suite, dining room table and chairs, cooker, fridge, washing machine etc.
The house is then emptied of all the items i mentioned above because the new tenant is entitled to all new items.
The house is now filled back up with all the new items.
The van is then loaded back up with all the items that have been removed from the house which are the exact same items that have just been put into the house.
The old items are then given to a charity.
Twaddle. Utter twaddle. When a tenant is told they will be having work done to "their" house they are then given all kinds of options regarding what they can have, if a new kitchen is to be fitted they get to choose what style and colour doors and worktops they want, and the same with floor coverings, wall tiles, and decorating of the kitchen.
Seems fair enough to me.If the tenant says i want to decorate the kitchen myself then they will recieve a voucher or money to pay for the materials required to do the job which 9 times out of ten never gets done because they spend the money on something else.
And the council/HA save on labour. It's the tenant who end up with an undecorated kitchen, which is their choice. Why would that be a problem for you?0 -

Do you or have you worked for a housing association? My husband is not a liar thank you very much. I saw paperwork relating to a lot of the things he told me and I know a lot of the people he worked with who also told me what goes on.The world is over 4 billion years old and yet you somehow managed to exist at the same time as David Bowie0 -
Really? [*rolls eyes smiley*]

- New migrants to the UK over the last five years make up less than two per cent of the total of those in social housing.
- Some 11 per cent of new migrants have been allocated social housing.
- The comparable figure for UK born residents is 17 per cent, and for all foreign-born UK residents 18 per cent.
- Over 90 per cent of those in social housing are UK-born
Yes Really!!!!
I don't care what is made up about social housing. The truth is most of does go to migrants, at least in and around London. If the truth were known by more people I guess more people would be up in arms about it.
My husband worked for housing associations - where do you get your facts? The world is over 4 billion years old and yet you somehow managed to exist at the same time as David Bowie0 -

Oh yes it is. The couple I know were told they would not be eligible for social housing BECAUSE THEY BOTH WORK!The world is over 4 billion years old and yet you somehow managed to exist at the same time as David Bowie0 -

If you are quite happy for council tenants to be treated exactly the same as somebody who goes out to work day in day out year after year then thats fine.
I personally think its disgusting that people who choose not to work for a living are treated better than people who work, i think its disgusting that the tenants are given so much say in what materials are used on the property, i think it would be safe to say a lot more houses could be upgraded if these tenants were not given so much choice. Its far far cheaper to have every house done to the same basic specification.
If you are happy for a council tenant to recieve payments that are intended for redecoration purposes, to then go out and waste the money on something else then thats fine but personally i dont think its the best way for a budget to be allocated.
Must be nice to live in your world were this type of thing is unheard of.0 -
What are you basing your comment on ?.
I am basing my comment on being surrounded by council estates for the last 31 years and knowing how it all works and also spending nearly ten years working on council properties.
I presume you think i am lying and i wish i was, but sadly what i have said is true.
This is how it works....
An immigrant family is given a council house.
The house gets new carpets and floor coverings fitted throughout.

Existing british tenants surrounding said property then start whingeing about how hard done to they are because they havent got all new stuff to put in their free house.
Also regarding the payment the tenant gets for being disturbed is very true, the council tenant only gets this once works to "their" home have been completed.
When a tenant is told they will be having work done to "their" house they are then given all kinds of options regarding what they can have, if a new kitchen is to be fitted they get to choose what style and colour doors and worktops they want, and the same with floor coverings, wall tiles, and decorating of the kitchen.

I can understand that some people do not believe that this goes on because i agree it is very shocking but it happens day in day out on housing estates right across the country.
If you know anybody who is involved with completing the works on council and housing association properties then ask them if its true.
Definitely all true. I have to wonder if the posters that are adamant that this is not true are themselves in social housing with a new kitchen, new washing machine etc and don't want the public in general to know what goes on.
You and my husband work/worked in social housing and know that this all definitely goes on. My husband used to get annoyed about it and the things he told me made me sick! The world is over 4 billion years old and yet you somehow managed to exist at the same time as David Bowie0 -

It's not actually. Do you live in social housing? I think you must and have had everything new which is why you are saying it is not trueThe world is over 4 billion years old and yet you somehow managed to exist at the same time as David Bowie0 -

I have always thought the same in regards to what you have said about everybody being up in arms about what goes on, when me or my workmates tell people how it all works they are either shocked and disgusted, burst out laughing or tell us we are liars.
I can understand why your husband chose to leave his job because i know a few people who have walked off site because they have had enough of it all and are sick to death of having to be polite to those council tenants who think they are now your boss because you are working in "their" house.0 -
My facts in this case are from a published report investigating the issue, I provided a link to the same.Yes Really!!!!

It clearly states that less than 10% of social housing tenants are non-UK born.
So, where do you get your facts from? Oh yes, your husband, who says that tenants are 75% immigrants, and all get free furniture and appliances... and its all a conspiracy.... the government is in cahoots with the several million people who are benefitting from these 'golden plated'
tenancys to keep it all hush hush. We cannot change anything unless we accept it. Condemnation does not liberate, it oppresses. Carl Jung

Stocks and flows though - just cos the vast majority of existing tenants are UK born doesn't mean that lots of new tenants are not.My facts in this case are from a published report investigating the issue, I provided a link to the same.
