:T I really liked your post! :TI like the way most of the posters on here focus their ire on the people who haven't had good educations, have probably lived in pretty poor places their whole lives and had poor parents setting the wrong example.
Rather than the absolutely priviliged people who are fradulently obtaining council houses and renting them out illegaly at huge profit. Did it estimate 50,000 properties across the country are in this position? The scum doing that should be the ones people are furious with. But as usual in right wing Daily Mail dominated Britain that is totally ignored!0 -

Neither are acceptable situations and should be addressed.0 -
I don't think he will get off so lightly quite honestly. I am certain he will have to face a disciplinary through his work. I would be happy to see him kicked out of the force and stripped of his pension quite honestly!Took away his council flat. Were thinking about a slap on wrist but decided would be a bit harsh.0

I am divorced, have two boys (8 & 15) - by the same father I wish to add! - work part time, have lived in private rental place for 4 years but now my land lord wants to move back so need to find somewhere quick. But the problem I'm having is that as soon as I mention I get housing benefits the estate agent/landlords don't want to know!! I went to the council and all they told me was to wait until my landlord actually evicts me then they might find me somewhere temporary! - I really don't want to go down that route as I don't want to upset my landlord or the children and get a bad reference. I have been trying to find a full time job but had no luck (plus I don't think I'd actually be any better off after Tax, childcare etc.)! I suppose my only options are to win the lottery, marry someone rich or rob a bank!0

I've just watched this on the iplayer and a much as i disliked the guy buying the tenancy he did have a vaild point they should investigate how the council house people, my sister rented her own private house when she moved in with her boyfriend to a woman who claimed full housing benefit that the council paid her to pay my sister after 2 months she stopped paying the rent after another couple of months they had to start the eviction process and even tho the council were informed that she wasn't paying the rent they still continued paying the tennent it, 6 months in all its taken both the council ( tax payer)and my sister are 3k out of pocket, and the tennent has just picked up the keys to a brand new housing association house because she was classed as homeless...makes me sick0

Oh... sorry. Are you all so taken up in this Daily Mail outrage and ire that you're ignoring genuine cases being put to you to try to put an end to the prejudice?
I know there are some out there royally taking the wee wee but some of us need you to consider that is not EVERY social tenant.
Some of us have had to push down our pride and accept the help for the sake of our children.

Without meaning to hijack the forum, I often think that people on benefits are given a very difficult time on these boards, and it's USUALLY by people who are themselves in receipt of cash benefits o one kind or another eg. child benefit.EmRayMarRhys wrote: »Oh... sorry. I've just left Social Housing. I'd lived there for over 8 years.
I was a single parent at the time with 3 children goign through a messy divorce. I had a job but it wasn't great and the money was really quite bad.
So....i took myself off to college, to get enough quals to go to university. I spent 4 years at uni and now have a great job.
I also met a lovely man and am now happily married.
My parents have helped us with the deposit to buy a house of our own (despite some folk thinking we shouldnt be buying a house if we don't have the deposit ourselves :undecided) which now frees up another council house for someone in greater need than us.
There is NO excuse to be in any of those situations. Anyone can change their life if they put their mind to it......0 -
including the miraculous removal of my kids' disabilities, LisaB?0

Hi LIsaB1970 - what did you do at uni, and what job do you have now? I was thinking of going to college but feel useless and stupid and don't think I would be any good at anything. I didn't do well at school - even though I tried really hard. I have a really bad memory and find it hard to retain information and concentrate! I would love a better job and more money to get me and the boys out of our situation but feel that I'm just useless.0
