Meant to say as well it was a pretty one sided report from a usually well respected programme....0

I fear if I do watch I'll end up throwing my remote at the tv.
I was going to suggest to hide it but then you will smash your telly when you can't turn over!
In my opinion the programme was a bit disjointed and didn't (I hope) show a fair reflection of people in council housing.
I was disappointed at the lack of details given despite the programme being (or trying to be) emotive. No information on the employment status of their subjects makes everyone assume they are not employed- so why should we feel sorry for them without the right facts.
I agree that the buying of tennancies and sub-letting is wrong but the system is set up with the gaps in it for abuse.
The fact that none of the stories were followed up fully was also a disappointment. I'd love to know if any proper sanctions were taken to deter future fraud.0 -

Mine is a lovely fancy top of the range 42 inch new panasonic plasma, but I can afford that because I live in a 1 bed place (that I had to pay 6 months rent + 1 month deposit up front, because I had no references due to only staying in bedsit type places before) not a massive house like all these council tenants, work full time, and don't have children.
4 years ago I was unemployed, had zero money, had to stay with parents, and the highest qualifications I had were A levels. It is possible to get a job. I had two before the current one also, I left each one because the next one paid more. You just need to be prepared to move away from places with no jobs! Why do people insist on living in places with no jobs?
I love the council woman's hair though.
Humphrey - please can I come around to yours on Saturdays to watch Doctor Who?0 -
Three minutes in and can feel the blood pressure boiling. 9 people in that three bed house complete with flat screen tv, and they moan they want a bigger place. Err, how about keeping your legs closed until you have a place to house them?!Foreign politicians often zing stereotypical tunes, mayday, mayday, Venezuela, neck

Sorry them's the rules you have money although earmarked for something else. Spend it first then apply for housing but don't be caught by the deprivation rules.
Enjoy your break you deserve it.0 -
Seems like you almost certainly will, since they're aware of your planned holiday and have advised you to cancel it. If you go ahead anyway they may well refuse to rehome you. Not saying this is fair, just be careful!
would also not be legal for gods sake get legal advice if the council try and go down this route0 -
'There ant got nowhere else to go unless the council offer 'em sumfin'.'
Those two lads sleeping on the sofa look healthy and old enough to both get jobs and find their own place. Where do they get this sense of entitlement that the council needs to GIVE them something because it's too cramped? get off the sofa and pay for your own house!Foreign politicians often zing stereotypical tunes, mayday, mayday, Venezuela, neck

Wow that programme made me angry. How can a bloke be allowed a council flat when he owns a property right across the way, let alone all the other properties and his "French Chateau"!! Grrr.
And the woman with all the kids... why on earth did she keep having them when she has no money and no space to put them?!
I also have no understanding of why that younger guy and his girlfriend were paying £500 a month (I think?) for a mouldy house with a flooded basement. Did it never occur to them to call environmental health if their LL wouldn't fix it?
Clearly the entire social housing system needs a massive overhaul. It's far too open to abuse as it is.0 -

Seeing the mess and misinformation that Panorama gave out on pensions (which was more fiction than fact), I really doubt anything they put out any more.
It seems to be a mixture of extremes rather than the norm, a bit of made up information, incorrect assumptions and dumbing down to sensationalise nowadays.
