Lodger didn't move in on date agreed - tricky Q - can anyone help?

the lodger is liable for the re-rental costs via the way that the op normally advertises. if she were to higher a sky writer her would not be liable (to my understanding).
same principle if she normally advertises by buying the 6 week deal. she shouldn't have to change how she normally does business, but she should not make his liablity any higher than her normal costs. One of the hardest of all life lessons is this:
Just because I feel bad doesn’t necessarily mean someone else is doing something wrong.

It's all academic now. I didn't advertise, and now have chosen my new lodger - the woman.
I've taken B's advice removed the word contract and emailed L1. I then phoned his mobile spoke to him and told him to be sure to read his emails today. That way I know for sure that he will read the message and start looking for another room.
Now all I have to do is wait and see what sort of fight he will put up about the deposit.
What does 81.73/80 mean?0 -
80 is my aimed at budget for the month, but I've moved into a new flat and gone slightly over by buying 44 bags of pasta at 9p each. therefore I've spent 81.73 and can spend no more.
helps me keep track if i write it down. One of the hardest of all life lessons is this:

So if you usually let it within the week, why are you intending to charge the lodger for 6 weeks?
You must have misunderstood because I never had such an intention! In post 13 I wrote "it also costs me £15pw to advertise a room in the local paper (the only place that everyone looks for a room). So that is an additional expense I will incur as a result of this man's messing me about." Which posting are you referring to?
I normally pay £15 a week. But eight weeks ago when I went online to place the ad, there was a "6 weeks for the price of 4 weeks" deal. So I went for it. Just that once. You see, just lately there are more rooms to let than lodgers available to fill them (it's usually the other way around) so I figured in that climate 6 for 4 was a good deal, as the room may well have taken 6 weeks to fill. As it was, the very next day L1 rang me....0 -

Oh I see. You have spent £81.73 out of a budget of £80.
44 bags of pasta? Sounds most unappealing. Still, needs must eh?
So is that a budget just for food, or toiletries, laundry etc as well? I spend about £100 a week on food for me and the cat, toiletries, cleaning stuff. I am wheat intolerant so no cheapo pasta dishes for me! I live mainly on steak, chops, prawns, salmon, and salad.
But now we are really digressing off topic - sorry!0 -
not really, the 44 bags (22kg) of pasta will last me easily a year. I keep long life stuff under my bed in plastic boxes.
I often spend £300 a month on food just for me, but I really don't see the point and don't see why I can't just spend £20 a week - when you look at it that's a lot of money.
I just spent £12 on fruit and veg that when chopped and prepared will make at least 40 generous portions and will keep happily in the fridge or freezer for the rest of the month. With this months budget I also bought 4 lamb joints, 4 packs of 8 sausage, 1 pack of 8 burgers and a large gammon joint - all decent quality. When combined with the tins I already have, the baking I tend to do (fruity oaty bars, and cobbler this month probably) and the 12 litres of fruit juice i normally drink in a month I don't see that I have a stingy diet.
the only times i really spend more are when i decide to be lazy and have takeout or conveniance carp and i want to see if i can not do that. make sense?
EDIT: it may surprise you, but when I've stocked up and managed this month I aim to see if I can drop my budget down to £40 for the month. This would be half and half fruit and veg and meat. One of the hardest of all life lessons is this:

Well it all got sorted in the end. I have let the room to the woman, AKA L4, and after I told L1 he rang me and whinged at me for half an hour, constantly interrupting me and trying to bully me into giving him the room. The pushier he was, the more he put me off having him here. I think if we had any kind of dispute while living here he'd have tried this browbeating technique to get his own way, so I am glad he isn't going to live here.
He demanded his entire £200 deposit back, saying he only gave it to me to hold the room for him (which I had, from 17 March to 1st May, as agreed). I said I thought I should keep all of it for all the trouble and financial loss he'd put me to, and in the end we agreed on 50/50. So I gave him £100 back and kept £100.
SO, problem now solved.0 -
Well done you!
I had someone into work with me for a shift to 'try it out' recently - and didn't give them the job because they were so pushy. I just knew I couldn't work with them, they must have asked me 6 or 7 times during the morning whether or not they could have the job. Kept telling me how great they were............
I can't abide being around people like that.
Consider it a lucky escape eh.0 -
thanks, sea xx0
