Everyone else seems to be in the "I love my kindle" mode when they may be rationalising spending a lot of money for what is no more than an expensive toy. I love it when they say "you can download thousands of books", but you can only read 3 or 4 a week maximum.

But to me thats the appeal. Ive found a brilliant site which has dozens of books I like, Ive downloaded them, converted them and added them to my Kindle. At the moment Ive got 175 books on it, so reading them at the rate of 3 or 4 a week, thatll keep me going for quite some time. I keep spotting more that I want to download and so far Ive spent the grand total of £5. Its saving me an absolute fortune

You're right if you're only reading books to relax.

But I have loaded mine up with every technical / IT manual in my collection that had a PDF copy.

It's handy carrying around a kindle rather than 200-300lbs of MCSE/MCDSE/ A+/ Network+ / Security+ Study guides. As well as the many Linux manuals and guides.

I use mine as a reference tool when I do IT support jobs...

How do you find it with PDFs?

I bought mine a couple of days ago knowing that the sony readers are better with PDF's but I was swayed by people saying the kindle screen was superior.

I'm going to take a look at duokan that somebody mentioned, as ATM it's useless for reading pdfs.

My old fashioned library was recentlymodernised and you would now struggle to borrow anything other than a Mills and Boon type book or other lowest common denominator stuff. All the really good stuff has been sold off over th epast 2 years, I know because I did a deal with them and bought quite a lot of stock.
Yup, my library's now pants! They've just alphabetised everything instead of having different sections for types of fiction, plus they only have half the books they used to have.

The only thing I do like now, is the automated system to take out & return books.

Good job I got a 3G Kindle though as it won't link to my new router:(

It's a bit hit and miss with PDF's to be honest.
I've found that you have to experiment between emailing PDF's to your kindle and copying them over to see which one works for each type!

    But basically :
If there's loads of diagrams them copying them over is best!
But if it's mainly text then sending it via email then Amazons conversion service tweaks it so text flow works better but it's a pain when it hits diagrams.

The email service is free as i've a wifi only kindle.

try right click on the installer and selecting "Install As.."
see if that makes a difference.

Did you download it from here http://calibre-ebook.com/download_windows

Also is there a "shield" icon on your taskbar asking you to allow it to run ? The current version is 0.8. Also did you download it before 0.6.17 , if so you need to uninstall it first .
