Don't like my Kindle!

Well done to the OP for saying that they don't like the Kindle.
Everyone else seems to be in the "I love my kindle" mode when they may be rationalising spending a lot of money for what is no more than an expensive toy. I love it when they say "you can download thousands of books", but you can only read 3 or 4 a week maximum.
On the other hand, if the Kindle does get more people reading books then it has to be a good thing (TM)
Personally I'm waiting until the technology matures (and the price goes down) and ebooks can be loaned from an on-line library.

Fair point well made, Dave_C!
For the ubiquitous technology that is in the Kindle, it should by rights be a clearance line in Poundland.
Once the Kindle has dropped in price to the point that I wouldn't care if I fatally dropped the Kindle, then I might just buy one.
That said, I'm very keen to see the Kindle hacked so that its 3G modem can be used for something useful other than browsing the Amazon e-bookshop and checking the MSNBC weather reports.
The Kindle runs ARM Linux so it should be possible to port some decent network applications onto it.
Here's betting that it's only a matter of time before hackers work out how to remotely compromise a Kindle over its 3G or WiFi connection, and then the real fun will begin.0 -

I would like opiions on kindle vs i pod touch ( fight)
I have enough to buy a kindle or at a push an ipod touch 8gb
I can read books on the ipod and I can get them free from my local library and I can of course also play games and music.
Kindle = cheaper but books not available from library.
Should I go for the ipod or is it too small to read and is the memory too small? - I can't afford a bigger one ATM
Plus if I get either online presumably they are covered by the statutory 30 day return and money back guarantee?
My mum bought a sony pocket reader from argos (shop not online) and they told her she could not return it unless it was faulty.Just call me Nodwah the thread killer0 -
The kindle might be getting library lending access in the near future,
They have just announced lending via kindle in the US (It's the same digital system as UK libraries use).Laters

Horses for courses.
If you only want to read occasionally and also play games the go for the touch. If you want to read plenty and not play games (other than a pretty poor version of minesweeper) then go for a dedicated E-book reader like the kindle. The kindle only has 2GB memory so the 8GB of the touch should be more than ample.
(other e-book readers are available, I mention the kindle as it was specified in the OP, not because i have one. As far as i am concerned am very happy with it and couldn't give a monkey's about the attempt at restricting choice....BLAH>>>BLAH>>>BLAH:p)Never put off till tomorrow what you can do today!
Cos if you do it today and like it...You can do it again tomorrow..

For anything other than looking at short term I would find reading on the Ipod touch hard work, it really is too small. Do you not know someone with an Ipod, that could let you try it for free (you get book tasters free) I love my Ipod but would not read on it, my mobile phone has a bigger screen.Totally Debt Free & Mortgage Free Semi retired and happy0 -
For those of you with Android phones download the kindle app and give it a try0
