Changing Broadband Provider help please

Options
My first post so please be gentle :)

I am currently with Wanadoo for broadband. I've had this sice it was Freeserve so pay 27.99 for unlimited download at 512. I want to switch to Tesco but am having a nightmare. First there was a delay as they said BT needed to increase capacity at the local exchange, now they are saying I can't have broadband as there are " incompatible rented products
on the line". It turns out its my current broadband connection ! Tesco say I will have to cancel and remove my current provider before I can be connected. I do not have an internal modem so I would be without any internet access for that time.
Is this always the case when switching from one boradband provider to the other?

ANy help would be much appreciated
Thanks
Mrs M

You would normally 'migrate' from Wanadoo to Tesco (assuming that Tesco accept migrations?). You would need to contact Wanadoo and ask for a MAC code which you would then provide to Tesco. This means you should not have any disconnection time.

I do not have a very high opinion of Tesco and would personally look at other suppliers.
  • Why Tesco? There are better deals out there!
  • You could get AOL unlimited 512k for instance for £17.99. There help lines are free to call. I considered Tesco a few months ago when they first launched but cancelled before activation as there service was very poor. Seems not much has changed!

thanks for your help. The only reason we were going for Tesco was it was one of the cheapest I could find with no down load limits (hubby's specification, will only change to an unlimited service)
I think prices must have got cheaper since I originally applied at TEsco ! Will look again for someone else.
Any other recommendations apart from AOL
  • Prices are coming down on uncapped broadband all the time now.

Personally I am with Tesco, have been since my dial up days and have had no problems, also I understand its rumoured they will be upping from 512 to 1mb with no extra charge.

No matter which provider you ask about there will be negative and postive comments although probably more negative as people tend not to report when they are happy, its the nature of the beast ;)

Only thing to do really is trawl through the websites and perhaps short list those that come into your "wish list" and then try and find out more about those ones :)

I'm presuming your have a BT landline - in which case you could migrate to EFH Broadband at an initial cost of £35 - but then it's only £11.75 per month for 512 speed with unlimited downloads.

In all probability their speeds will double just like every one elses - but even if it doesn't its a great deal.

Initial 3 month contract, then it's only monthly (but it would take a lot to move me!). Takes about 1 week to change, and everything has been fine since I switched. They get very good feedback comments...

I agree with Jonni that EFH is definitely worth looking at (I switched to them last week) but I must warn you, be prepared for a rough ride in leaving Wanadoo

See here to find out why!

Good luck, think you're gonna need it! ;)

I am having trouble accessing their website. Do you have a link to them? I am also looking to change broadband ISP from BTopenworld as they are expensive!
I am also looking for a provider with no download limits as I have absolutely NO IDEA how much the limits are and what they mean in real terms!
