Please people, if you want your kids to have a water fight, them pistols are no use at all. Good old fashioned one pint fairy liquid bottles, with a minor adaptation to the nozzle work wonders.

Please note Freddie does not advocate their use, but make sure they are rinsed first.
  • I've stayed away from this thead all morning as i've felt i wished i never started it and that i need to justify myself. I think its easy for things to get misunderstood and for others to make assumptions about all sorts of things.

I have spoken to my friend today and we've sorted it out, so maybe its time to let it drop. I can understand others opinions even if i don't necessarily agree but i appreciate of lot of points have been made here on assumption.

Neither me or my friend are rude people, in fact quite the opposite, we usually bend over backwards to make sure otherwise. In fact my mum just phoned me from town today saying she'd been complimented by two elderly ladies in the cafe about how well mannered and polite my children are, the ladies had spent their meal watching my kids interacting with my mum and others. Its always a good feeling when that happens.

I'm going to put yesterday down as an off day as someone suggested and move on. But for the record:-

    1. We do have a routine but we are also very flexible with that where necessary, just yesterday I was pushed for time.
    2. My friend popped around not for a "play date", but for a quick cuppa and a catch up and usually water play isn't an issue, hence my confusement. It transpires the issue was the water pistols, so i'll remember that for next time.
    3. I am teaching my children to ask me first if its ok to invite someone to come round/have tea/play in the garden before asking their friend and especially not in front of them, putting me on the spot. My mum always did this with us and I learnt very quickly that if i asked in front of a friend she would say No.
    4. Son slept very well last night and didnt rise until gone 8am, so he must have needed the sleep.
    5. I was late getting to where i needed to be last night, but it didnt matter.
    6. My thread title was poorly worded, but it was late last night and i wasn't as articulate as i should have been. My title was a question not a statement. But similarly when a child is in my house i would expect them to abide to our house rules, like i would expect my kids to do in someone else's house.
    7. I'll remember the washing up bottle trick next time we run out, we did this as kids too.
    8. There are other circs as "shy-but-needs-help" mentioned which probably lead to mountains and molehills - i feel better knowing i'm not the only one that does this. Thanks.
    9. My son had already had an afternoon snack, so providing another one 15mins before dinner would guarantee a lose of appetite, so that wasnt really an option.

Anyway, shall we let this drop off the page now and let it go?
