Orange customers can get 2-for-1 cinema tickets on a Wednesday.0 -
I think it might be a good idea to budget in a small allowance for each of you into the monthly expenditure, after all he's likely to be alot more helpful to getting the garden done if he's not feeling resentful about it.
We live on a tight budget and if we didn't allow some small amount of money that doesn't have to go anywhere but on ourselves it would be really hard to stick to it without resenting the fact we need to save towards lots of major house/family projects.:j BSC #101 :j0 -

Yes that's what we do. The price of snacks and drinks at the cinema are horrendous!
Never been searched - but I'd probably use some excuse about strict dietry requirement/allergy etc...0 -
I take my own food to the cinema and maybe buy myself a drink if I can be bothered.
You wouldn't want my h2b then he spends £6 odd a day!! on cigs.

Is he as commited to the garden improvements as you are and maybe this is the reason you find it so annoying? I'm not sure how this helps because you can't make it care. I think the individual pocket money is important. If all my wages were earmarked for house improvements, I'd be very unhappy.0

There's more to life than fencing and debt, give the poor bloke a break!
If spending £10 made me happy and made me forget about life's issues for a bit, then that's £10 well spent! :j0 -
This is frustrating for you but I agree that you need to have some money built in to the budget for treats, unless your situation is so severe this is not possible. My wife just does not understand the importance of popcorn at the cinema. To be honest I would pay any amount they charged for popcorn at the cinema. It is part of the experience for me, and while taking your own stuff is fine (and what I do most of the time), buying fresh popcorn there adds so much to the cinema experience!!!
If he's sticking to your budget mostly, I'd forgive him. Be nice to him when he gets back and I like the suggestion of discussing how the budget has been affected by this but emphasise that you're not criticising him, you're just planning with the most up to date info now that £10 has gone. Criticising him isn't really going to achieve anything anyway, you need to be a bit cleverer to get him round to your way of thinking. Maybe "I'm glad you enjoyed your cinema trip, I think I'll treat myself to coffee with the girls" or whatever. Or you have to try and convince him subtly that moneysaving is his idea!0 -
There could be all sorts of reasons why he had to 'ask' for money for popcorn, of course. In some relationships, one partner takes care of withdrawing cash, and that may be for convenience or for control. If we need cash during the week it's not easy to get it without paying for a withdrawal, which goes against my principles!
Although my Dad was usually the one who got money out of the hole in the wall (or more usually by going to the bank in his lunch hour and getting it over the counter!), he usually handed most of it over to Mum. Then when he was running low he'd ask her for more, at which point she'd give him the 3rd degree about what he'd spent his money on ...Signature removed for peace of mind0
