There are certain things that you just don't do...
His mates must think he has no balls if he cannot even spend his money on a popcorn...

I agree people have to have same outlook on finances, but even if they don't completely.. Why would a grown man go and ask for money for popcorn???? All this causes is resentment.

OP I think you need to allocate money for entertaining spend for each of you and once it is spent, it is spent -fair enough. I think "asking" for hard earned money is just plain wrong. You are his partner, not his mother!

popcorn is packaging... and it stinks...

We always take our own sweets and stuff... wrapperless so no scratting about!

Surely £10 won't make any difference to the arden.. it is a piece of land for goodness sake.. i think you should lighten up and enjoy life more rather than fretting over a patch of grass!

As others have said, it doesn't seem the buggest sin so give him a break.

Yes if he went and bought the latest £500 smartphone or such like then fair enough, but £10 for a cinema trip is hardly going to break the bank.

I know everyone is banging on about orange wednesdays but I hate wednesday nights at the cinema and will never go on a wednesday, its always packed and full of noisy gits. Not worth saving money if you arent going to enjoy what you are spending the money on anyway in my opinion.

If you are a serious cinema goer and have a cineworld cinema nearby then go for the Unlimited Card, £14 a month and go as much as you like, works out cheaper for me than orange wednesdays and you can go when you like.

I am one of the said people with a cineworld card and we do avoid wednesdays for the reasons mentioned, mondays and thursdays are preferred.

With that you can still use orange wednesdays with the card, so we do go on the ocasional wednesday when my parents want to watch something, I get my dad in and my other half gets my mum in. With that we wait until said film is about to go off before going on a wednesday as then we only have to deal with the crowd when getting in and still get a quiet screen.

I also hate Orange with a passion for the annoying adverts before the film, they need to sack whoever is in charge of marketing..

The Rio advert they have on at the moment is so full of mistakes its rubbish, they even refer to what they are trying to advertise as "Crummy 3G" (also look in the window behind the parrot, its blue sky yet its snowing and the time says 12:25am)

And dont get me started on the Gullivers travels one they had on before that..

The orange adverts wouldn'r be as bad if they didn't show them for so long, if you go on a regular basis you get sick of them quickly.

There has been some good ones in the past, the Patrick Swayze one comes to mind (RIP).

The old ones with the advertising exec bloke were good (Danny glover was the last one or was it Steven Segal?) I just dont like the new movie tie-in ones. Like you say, they show them for too long, I probably go to cinema 6-10 times a month and it just gets annoying..

Don't get me started on Orange Wednesday! I don't care how much money you save, even if it was free i'd still think twice before going!

As for the original poster, lighten up for god sake! It's £10, if my wife was giving me grief every time I spent £10 we wouldn't be married very long!

Something about this post makes me really sad, it seems so wrong that a grown man has to ask if he can have some money for popcorn. I'm not saying it's your fault OP as I don't know much about your situation, but everyone needs a break from saving sometimes and a few quid once in a while won't ruin your future plans.

I know this is a money saving website, but it does worry me when I read people getting so caught up in saving that they forget to live their lives and enjoy themselves. It's such a cliche but when you're lying on your deathbed, you won't be looking back and thinking that you wish you had bought that fence a few weeks earlier. You will be thinking of your memories, time with friends and family, relaxing and enjoying yourself.

I think there has to be a balance between saving for the future and living for the here and now.
