Problem with Valliant Combi Boiler

  • I am no expert! Just speaking through experience of my boiler! My hubby who is an electrician, so has a little bit of engineering know how has fiddled with ours, he got the whole valve out and messed with a part of it to 'unstick' the valve, which worked temporarily but now we are looking to get a new valve because it driving me crazy. He didn't have to turn the water off as i remember, but I will check with him when he gets home!
If you are not adept at taking things apart then i wouldn't attempt it as it was fairly tricky! This said you may be able to get a cheaper repair if you buy your own part (i was quoted £100 for the diverter valve from my local plumb shop) I put my model of vaillant combi in google, got the part number and have found the same ones selling on ebay for £45-£65 with p&p
Maybe this link will be of a little help http://www.ezypart.co.uk/parts/part_id__157

    wishing you well

Thanks but I am not even sure which boiler I have as there doesnt seem to be any details actually on the boiler except Valliant. Looking at the books I got with it I am sure it is either a TURBOmax Pro or THERMOcompact. I think it must be the TURBOmax Pro as the compact seems to require a seperate storage for water(A cyliner) which my system doesnt have.

However there seems to be a number of model numbers on the booklet so not sure which is mine ?
    824 E, 828 E

    615 E, 620 E,
    624 E, 628 E

On my Breakdown Application form it says

    Make Vaillant Blr-Silver
    Model Code 242

Seems to be £77.10 on this site to has anyone found it cheaper ?

I have found this one on ebay where you can get it for £45 if your lucky or £65 if you do pay now. Is this the value I need ?

Ebay search for Vaillant Diverter Valve, B/N, model 252457

  • hi
on my info that came with boiler it just had the one model no. splashed all over it. The valve on ebay that you are looking at ( which incidentally i have ordered one of!) has the vaillant part no. 252457, this seems to fit quite a few models
The diverter valves used on the Vaillant Turbomax Plus 824E, 828E, 837E, Turbomax Pro 28E, Ecomax 824/2E, 828/2E, 835/2E and Aquaplus boilers have the Vaillant part number 25-2457

    I can't seem to find out about the models 615 E, 620 E,
    624 E, 628 E

On my boiler there is no info on the front either, there are two plastic cross headed screws on the control panel bit, which i unscrewed with a knife!!! and there is a white label on the inside of the door with a model type printed on it ( amongst other things!)
    Hope this helps!!!!
  • Valiant boiler being ripped out as we speak:j It's being replaced by a Gloworm 38CXI. My hubby works at a local Bathroom Design & Plumbers Suppliers and this boiler is "raved about" apparently also we don't seem to be alone with our valiant problems. Some plumbers/companies/fitters won't even consider installing a valiant and as a previous poster stated the parts are expensive.

If you can make it cheaper do so. If it's not reduced, in Primark, off ebay or free I can't have it

  • Valiant as a whole are dam fine boilers that are very reliable, now like all things their are going to be problems.

It does sound like the original posters issue is down to flow problem.

Also if the Flame Icon is showing, press the pilot light ignition switch try 4 times or more, if this fails contact them direct.

You can get clone Valient Parts but they are no way as reliable.

We are on our first Valiant Boiler than we had fitted this summer. It performs well and seems so far so good, touch wood.

I took the front off my bolier and it seems I have a Turbomax 824E so the Diverta Valve part 252457 I found should be ok for this boiler.

Are you sure when you come to fit it you dont have to turn the water off or drain teh system to avoid water everywhere ?

  • We took out a British Gas service contract for our Valiant Boiler, cost us around £15.00 each month and after only a week into the first payment we had to call them out........they never queried that!!!!!!! and they have been really good over the years for sorting out any problems with it. The general opinion by the BG engineers that have called is they are great boilers but can be a beast to work on and trace some faults easily..so sometimes major parts tend to be changed more than some other makes of Boilers. Maybe not to late to take out a contract? Mrs Happy

You should find that the boiler has central heating/cold feed valves on the pipe connection manifold. This way you only lose the water in the boiler when you remove the valve.
