Holiday wear for a larger girl

Oh I do have the personality and wouldn't be bothered much, as when there are no mirrors I can quite easily forget what I look like.
But we're off on holiday with my parents and they are awfully judgemental, I always dress different when I'm around them.
Maxi dresses, I love the look, but can look terrible in them. Though I did buy one for my son's christening recently and it looks fab, except being maxi means I kept tripping on it. I love hitting the shops.
Any ideas for ermmm chafing in the thigh area?:wall:0 -

A dusting of talc? Cropped linen trousers are nice and cool and help with this. You can get them in Primark, supermarkets etc and these are better really as they are thiiner material and cooler.

Wear them with pretty sandals and loose cotton tops and as others have said pretty jewellery and accessories

This dress is a bargain, nice and not long enough to trip over (you can wear it as a maxi skirt as well!)

Sarongs are very forgiving and money-saving too as they're just rectangles of fabric0

Another good place to look for clothes online is Fashion World or Simply Be - they have a brilliant variety & they're very reasonably priced too - sorry I don't know how to do links - Hope you have a great holiday :-)0

I find a dot of Vaseline helps with chafing...
Inspire at New Look have some of the most gorgeous maxi dresses in at the moment, and they're really nice quality (I'm wearing one of them in my avatar pic but you cant really see much of it... my Mum has also bought some for her cruise hol and they are absolutely gorgeous) as have Yours (www.yoursclothing.co.uk) who also have some lovely cropped trousers.*The RK and FF fan club* #Family*Don’t Be Bitter- Glitter!* #LotsOfLove ‘Darling you’re my blood, you have my heartbeat’ Dad 20.02.200 -
I empathise, I'm 5 feet nothing and 11 1/2 stone, which may not sound a lot to some but at my height (shorght?) makes me look like a boucy ball! Definitely maxi's and sarongs. I wore them when I went to India in Feb, and will be again when I take the mother on a cruise next month. They can be dressed up or down as you like. Don't be afraid of bold colours but avoid very tiny or really big bold prints as both can be unflattering. Vertical stripes, block colours, strappy and flowing all flatter. Take lots of accessories and low/mid height heels, (nothing that makes you slop or teeter) have your finger/toe nails done and above all walk tall and don't try to hide who you are - all will make you look confident.
Have a super holiday0 -

No ideas as such but just wanted to say.... it has nothing to do with your size, so please don't feel embarrassed. I'm sure a lot of people who are struggling with their weight think that this is a problem only for the larger girl but I'm a size 8/10 and find this an issue! The only way I can get round it is by wearing shorts.0 -

with maxi dresses, I find the ones which look best on me are the ones which are strapless and have a fully-shirred bodice (and no frill around the bottom). I've got a shrug to put over it to dress it up, looks lovely (and I usually detest wearing dresses).
for chafing, try roll-on deodorant on your thighs and let it dry before you put your clothes on.0 -
A friend of mine who is short and plump usually finds maxi dresses are too long for her...
BUT... she tries on long skirts with wide shirred waistbands, and pulls the waistband up over her bust to make a bandeau type of dress - and voila!
She has 'created' several fab 'dresses' this way, and wears them with a shrug or bolero for a different look.
Worth a try if you are short and find some skirts that you like - this method covers a tummy very effectively too!
HTH, and have a great holiday when you go0 -
Okay, now I'm practically dying to get out to the shops!!
Thank you all for your advice.:wall:0
