  • I have just been to one of my 'local extra' stores to get this phone, spent the required £40 plus to get the offer, goes to the till and picked a young lad everthing went through and after he had put the phone case through asked if I wanted any extra airtime which I said no, discount hadn't come off, thought yesss I got a phone but when they delivered the phone to the checkout the young lad said 'I pressed yes for the discount but it hasn't come off' so man with phone did the £20 quid discount, gave the young lad my card to pay but it wouldn't accept it and he asked me for an alternative card to pay with - which I said I hadn't got, so took all the shopping and the phone to CS (very clued up girl) tried my card again, put in my pin number but still wouldn't accept my card, so they are storing my shopping till 10pm tonight but I shan't be going back to pay as I have no free phone, which I did actually want for OH for Xmas, I have read on PTS that if you have used your card on the same day for a few orders they block it, which I had made 2 wine orders this morning. There is a leaflet knocking around Tesco's stating which phones have the discount on, and at the moment it's nearly all the Tesco phones including the W810i

    Too many phone promos!!!

    £40.00 spend instore.

What i'm reading on the Tesco website is:

£20.00 off any Tesco mobile phone over £50, when you buy £10.00 airtime.

£10.00 off any Tesco mobile under £50.00, when you buy £10.00 airtime.
I made a mistake once, believeing people on the internet were my virtual friends. It won't be a mistake that I make again!

Its not usually my tipple of choice.. honest!

Been kicking myself ever since that I never checked if Stella was on the list... Oh well, no harm having a bit of 'cooking lager' in for all the crimbo visitors ;)

To be honest even Stella isn't the best. In the UK we get the dodgy brew version with an ABV of 5.2% rather than the nicer tasting 5.1% ABV version the rest of europe has. No chemical aftertaste!

Thats why when I've R&R'd the 2 for £16 offer I have 1 Becks and 1 Stella so I get at least one case of decent tasting beer!

It also saves the hassle of the do-gooder checkout assistants trying to advise you to buy an extra case of Stella for 4p!:D
Although I did have the hassle one time when the CS staff tried to just refund the case of Stella, insisting the Becks wasn't an overcharge as it was in the current offer. I stood my ground and one phone call upstairs to the manager I had my full refund.:T

Doh!.. never thought to mix.. Think I got a bit giddy when I spotted the out of date SEL in my usual extra vigilant store :D

so off i wen to customer service who agreed with me that it was an overcharge, but whilst standing in front of the phone stand she saw an A4 poster saying £20 off when bought with £20 of airtime, and because of this sign she would not R+R.........spoke to manager and he agreed that it was clearly signed.........

Showing you A DIFFERENT poster doesn't constitute a mistake on your behalf.

That is like a poster which says "Buy a carrot and get a potato free" .... and when you don't get the free potato, they show you another poster which says "Buy a carrrot and get a tomato free" .... SO they have TWO seperate offers on carrots, and you were eligible for the carrot/potato offer and since you didn't get it, you deserve to have the r&r policy implemented.

The things these stores try!!

You can't do anything  no SEL no overcharge, i assume maybe i'm wrong :o Also you accepted a full refund.

I asked the manager to ask her staff if they knew who & why the label was removed. She was not having any of it though. I had no choice but to accept a refund because she refused to let me have the discount.

I wasn't going to walk out of the shop paying in full for the phone because I knew I had even less chance once I had gone.

Just put it down to a learning experience, next time go with the Cs when they are checking the POS.

In regards to the Mobile phones, I did one yesterday, just spoke to CS @ HO, after confirming with the store, they agreed it was an overcharge, however, becuase I didnt spend it on groceries, I forfeit the R&R becuase apparently in the terms and conditions, its says £40 must be spent on groceries, can anyone confirm if this is true? The sign I saw just said spend £40 instore.

I spent my £40 on electricals topped up with a few groceries as you said spend in store
  • Hey guys,

REALLY unhappy with TesCON now – went in to do my weekly shopping and picked up a Sony Ericsson W810i mobile, which said it would be £147.xx. Spent over £40 on groceries, the discount came off but I was charged £149.xx. Customer services would only offer the £2 difference. A duty manager would not honour the refund policy, and for some reason kept on saying that he would withdraw the phone from sale and that he wouldn’t give it to me for free. This led to a lengthy discussion but they would not back down. I called head office who were adamant that the refund policy is at the manager’s discretion. I asked where that was stated, but was told that they didn’t need to. I was then escalated to a manager, who repeated this but told me to go in and speak to the store manager. I tried to do so, but only a duty manager would talk to me. He would not tell me why he would not adhere to their policy, and that it was their ‘right’ not to honour the policy etc. I told them that I would be contacting trading standards, and was told not to ‘threaten’ them and to leave the store!! I called head office again, and was promised that the store would call me within 10 minutes. Surprise, they did not and now head office is closed. The bit that gets me the most is the attitude of the duty managers, but also just how adamant head office were that it is at the store manager’s discretion and that this does not need to be stated anywhere.
Looks like a letter to Sir T, but am really disgusted now in how these stores are operating, and that head office are supporting them. Has anyone ever got to the stage of submitting a small claims court application against Tesco? I am so angry now…
