after speaking to CS girl, Duty Manager, 2 Customer helpline staff and customer helpline duty manager, they still wont agree an out of date SEL is an overcharge, even though it was the only price advertised for the product. they say this is tescos policy - although none of them could point me to where this is.

Phoned trading standards who adviced me to write a letter to HQ. where should i address this to? Customer services advise me to take this matter to the store manager, but i don't think there is any point since he is probably the one that came up with this "policy" in the first place.

Any ideas for a next move.

an out of date sel is still an overcharge! i know for sure as i have had the very same one myself and got a full refund. perhaps you could try HO again and this ask them where in the policy it mentions expiry dates and also point out to them that they are displaying lots of labels with expired dates around the store. (as many offers are extended beyond the sel date, but the out of date sels are sometimes left up when the offers are extended).

any other suggestions anyone? don't know if it would warrant a letter - depends on how much you got , i guess.

    Some Tips.
You know the reduction labels (yellow with loads of digits that hardly ever scan)?. Well look out for Clothing and Produce with these labels on - but not covering the whole of the original barcode. (bags of apples are good for this)
Take them to the till and the cashier will likely scan the original barcode. The till picks these up easier.
So you would have been charged the full price when the packet is advertised as a reduced price.
This is an Incorrect reduction, and will get you the full amount back plus the product.

Look out for Non food sections with a normal SEL, for example (ps2 game £27.98). Then look out for small round stickers on the label with a new price on. There was loads in my local store for £15.... Big overprice trip that turned out to be.

tis the season to be jolly, head to the seasonal ailses. I know for a fact that half the stuff does not work in the 3 for 2 offer.
Failing that check out the big black boxes that the items are kept in on the shelf, most will have a price on the lower right corner - check this matches.Kudos if there are another 10 items in the box - make sure the box does look like the original though, even if you have slight doubts that it isn't the CSD will make it easier if it looks as though it is how it was put on shelf by a member of staff.
"well how could it possibly be put in the wrong place, they have put 10 in there"

look for big yellow labels (example - Absolute Vodka only £11.97 (Raspberri, Citron and vanilla) - Look under this label and check that Raspberri, Citron and Vanilla all have yellow labels confirming this, if they do not - may be worth scanning - i got the raspberri one free a few weeks ago.

Did you know that different Tesco stores CAN set their own prices for XBox/Bundles/Consoles/Games? I have just been informed this by HO after phoning to see if they could give me a definative answer to all the XBox combo's/offers. I felt like I was banging my head against a brick wall. If HO can't give answers like this then no wonder some of the stores are baffled with prices. I also phoned up 2 Extras. One of them quoted £279.97 for the XBox/PES6 another quoted £299.97 for exactly the same. When I queried the higher one they said that also took into account the £20.00 saving? I am non the wiser really. I have a store that HAS a sel for £279.94, that is definate, and I am dying to find out as much info about correct prices before I go for it. The lowest price today I have found out is still 3p over the sel I have found.

Simple solution, take it to the checkout, if it scans at 3p more then you can claim r&r, if not, whoops you forgot your card.
