This is your HJT log. Loads of bloat :) Do you use Micrsoft Security Essentials? If so, did you manually enable Windows Defender's realtime guard?

These autostarts are up to you, I'd remove them all on mine. Use Start, Run, Msconfig and enter, then untick them in the Startups tab so you can tick them if it turns out you wanted or needed any of them:

The main problem with their computer is very obvious - they're running two antivirus programs. That'll give any computer fits.

I'd get them to uninstall AVG. Use Appremover (www.appremover.com) first, then follow up with the AVG removal tool http://download.avg.com/filedir/util/support/avg_remover_stf_x86_2011_1322.exe.

Also they have the Ask toolbar, so try to remove that using the 'Programs and Features' part of Control Panel, which is basically Add/Remove.

    For their hijackthis log.

Check these in HijackThis and select 'Fix checked':
    O2 - BHO: WormRadar.com IESiteBlocker.NavFilter - {3CA2F312-6F6E-4B53-A66E-4E65E497C8C0} - C:\Program Files (x86)\AVG\AVG10\avgssie.dll

These ones are optional to remove; I would remove them:

For all the 04s (the autostarts) best to get her to untick them in MSCONFIG (start menu, type MSCONFIG and press enter, then go to Startups tab).

hey Russ. Thanks so much for all your help thus far.
Have done what you said with mine and stuff I didn't know how to get rid of has gone so I'm a happy bunny!
Will progress With friends computer tomorrow night.
I know she's running AVG, had already suggested she replace with Avira or Avast but what else is she running?

    As to mine,
Yes I do use MSE. Have used both Avast and Avira previously so thought I'd give MSE a go.
I gather not everyone likes it.
But no, I did not manually enable ANYTHING! Do I need to do something more? Or just swap back to Avast?!!
    Thanks again.
You're very kind to give so much time.:T

No need to change your preference for antivirus.

I only asked about Windows Defender and MSE because of the following entry on yours:
    [Windows Defender] %ProgramFiles%\Windows Defender\MSASCui.exe -hide

Apparently it's there so that WD will come on if MSE is removed. I would remove the entry or untick it in MSCONFIG, as you'll never need Windows Defender no matter what antivirus you use.

Afterwards, double check in Control Panel > Windows Defender, that WD is disabled, as apparently it's been known to turn itself back on with MSE and in that case would cause conflicts.

Your friend is running AVG along with Avast, so apparently she took your at least half of your advice :)

Glad I could help, it's always good to see a computer run a bit faster. We've all had to fight the war on bloatware at some stage.

Feel free to post an updated HJT log, also let me know if there was anything in particular you still want help removing on your own computer.

Also out of curiosity, what has been removed that you didn't know how to get rid of?

(p.s. don't panic if some of the entries are missing when your friend tries to remove them, such as the AVG entries - as they should go after you get them to uninstall AVG)
