Windows security centre service

This seems to have changed a lot since Ilast used it (a few years ago).If running Windows 7 it should be there, unless disabled elsewhere. It'll look like this if it's there:

Hijackthis needs to be set to scan and make a log,how do you do this? then it'll automatically open notepad with a log. You copy paste from the notepad. If not, search for "hijackthis.log" as it'll save that in the same folder as you ran hijackthis from, and just open that in notepad and copy paste from there.
There is NO info at top of scan results, just starts at an R0 entry. Is this right?
Thanks so much for helping.:o0 -

Yup, did that, clicked on do a scan and save a logfile but I got the message: for some reason your system denied write access to the hosts file. It then gives instructions of what to do by typing in the 'run' facility and deleting the Hijack this reports and then saving the file. Is all this ok to do?From the menu before that:

That's due to HijackThis needing elevated rights to access the hosts file. She'll have to run HijackThis by right clicking on the icon, and selecting 'Run as Administrator'.
Alternatively, hold down LEFT SHIFT and right click, selecting run as administrator.
Third option, opening the file properties of hijackthis > compatibility options > tick Run As Administrator.0 -
Don't forget to get all the logs from Malwarebyes etc. MBAM stores its log under the Logs tab. Just get her to post all the ones that found any malware. You'll have to google yourself where SAS stores them.0

This is actually what I got - am trying it all for myself first. I tried to right click but no option to run as administrator.
Alternatively, hold down LEFT SHIFT and right click, selecting run as administrator. Will try this.
By the way, I am on Vista and she is on Windows 7.
Third option, opening the file properties of hijackthis Where do I find this please?> compatibility options > tick Run As Administrator.
Thanks Russ for your patience.:cool:0 -
Holding down left shift and right clicking still does not give me the run as admninistrator option?0

On Windows 7, then one of the first two options will work. Obviously have to quit HijackThis first.
You can open the file properties of a file by right clicking on it, and selecting Properties.0 -
Ah, got it.
Here is my log. Any identifiable probs?
