Windows security centre service

Trying to help a friend of my DD by long distance!
It seems she gets the message that the Windows security centre service can't be started.
She is running Windows 7.
We have installed and updated and run SAS, CCleaner and Malwarebytes.
Didn't need safe mode to do this.
1 Trojan found and a host of lesser evils.
Anyone know why we are getting this messaage and what to do about it. :o
Thanks.:)

    And does it matter?
    Please?

Check that the Security Centre service hasn't been disable by the malware:
Start >type services.msc, then look for Security Centre in the list, double click on it and change from 'disabled' to 'Automatic (delayed start)'.

Ask her to post any logs from scans that found something. Ask her to post a Hijackthis log.

Thank you so much for your reply. will get her to do that tomorrow as I know she has gone to bed now (lives in the frozen North so bed is the place to keep warm!).
Will post back once I've spoken to her again.:j
Have just had a go on my computer, out of interest and got no response.
Can you please spell out for me exactly what she needs to do?
I typed 'services.msc' into the search box in start. Was this correct?
    Thanks

alternatively, you can find it by going to control panel > administrative tools, and it'll be in there :)
    ......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......

I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple :D

Didn't see that you'd edited your post, had only read your original message. Good idea to try it on your own.

Yes put services.msc into the search box and press enter, and it'll load the services configuration. It'll show a list of various services on the computer. Just scroll down to 'Security Center' (American spelling) and the startup type should be 'Automatic (delayed start)'.

On your friend's computer it's probably set to 'Disabled', in which case she just needs to double click on it - then change the 'Startup type' dropdown box to say Automatic (delayed start). Afterwards, she can also manually press 'start', then OK.

Hopefully then it'll work. If not, I'd have to look into it to figure out what's going on - or someone else could give an opinion. Most likely, it's just the service was disabled by the malware. See how you go.

Hi Gunjack. Tried that and it gave the error message already stated and no other options I could see (got her to do a screenshot and email it to me). Any thoughts?

Thanks for that. Have tried on my own and this time got what I expected so at least I can talk her through it more easily. Many thanks for coming back to me on this.:)

Why don't you both download Teamviewer, you can then remote into their computer and help/watch the screen......It is FREE for personal use.

Right, well tried running services.msc and Services center was not listed at all.
Then as suggested we downloaded and ran Hijack this.
Got a scan result but cannot for the life of me figure out how to copy and paste it into here.
I was doing the same thing on my computer as I was telling my DD's friend to do and neither of us could copy and paste.
Am I being really stupid hewre?
When I tried to place the cursor at the beginning of the scan results it just put an ' x' in the first box and wouldn't, no matter where I started from, let me highlight the whole scan results.
    Help please?

If running Windows 7 it should be there, unless disabled elsewhere. It'll look like this if it's there:

Hijackthis needs to be set to scan and make a log, then it'll automatically open notepad with a log. You copy paste from the notepad. If not, search for "hijackthis.log" as it'll save that in the same folder as you ran hijackthis from, and just open that in notepad and copy paste from there.
