Romford isn't too bad. This one is a little over your budget but close to the train station. 30mins to Liverpool St and then 15mins on the tube.

Southend isn't too bad either.

Essex trains go to Liverpool Street or Fenchurch Street, and it then takes 20 mins on the Circle / District to Westminster.
Reading trains go to Paddington, with a similar tube time.
Kent trains to Victoria are 2 tube stops away, or a walk down Victoria Street down to Westminster.
Door to door will be slightly over the hour at the £100k budget level.
Orpington / Sevenoaks for example will bring it under the hour but triple the budget0 -
I commute from Basingstoke in Hampshire. 45 minutes into Waterloo.0

Luton is only 35 mins and I saw a bedsit for 29,950 there 2 years ago. Yes £29,950. Luton's a dump though. Biggleswade where I'm from, in Bedfordshire pretty sure you'd get a flat for 90k there. 45 mins to Kings X (but there are a v.few quick ones that take 28 minutes). Burgess HIll/Hayward's Heath are ok you might just find something around the 100k mark there. Tickets gonna cost 325-400/month remember.0

I never thought that I would be saying this, but......Barking isn't too bad at all now.
It used to be a depressing place to live but they are spending squillions regenerating it and it is becoming a rather nice town. Sitting comfortably between various poundshops there is a Travelodge and a Nando's. There are new also new homes, schools and health centres being built.
Tis an easy journey to the city from Barking station (tube or overland train).

Not always - Harlow, dirt cheap, but not the best place to live. You can always look at Bishops Storford or Stansted. Both are on the main line to Liverpool Street Station and take about 45-50 mins.

I used to live in both these places. Bishops Stortford is quite nice but Orpington is horrible.0 -
Another vote for Bedfordshire here.
Well, Cambridgeshire really. Try St Neots. I bought a 2 bed house with a garden there last year, 20 min (very nice) walk to train station, 40 min into Kings Cross. Its a nice safe town. As my Mum put it, has a Waitrose and a M and S so it can't be that bad ;-) PE19 post code
Bedford you can just get flats for 100k. For 140k tho you can buy 2 beds in Prime Ministers within walking distance of train station - 35 min to Kings Cross.0
