1 hour commute into Central London

I am looking to buy a flat/house within the next year for around £100K or so, which will need to be around one hour (or less) commute of Central London, around Westminster/charing cross way ideally (overground or tube travel). Is there any particular areas which the friendly MSE community can recommend?
Thanks very much.

Which part of Central London? It makes a big difference...0

I would start looking in Suffolk0

You might find this helpful as part of your search arsenal http://www.commutefrom.com
I think you have to "understand London" to be able to use it though .... it confuses the heck out of me0 -
I think you'll be lucky to find anything in your price-range travelling north or west out of central London. Use that commutefrom site for stations going south or east. You can be in Dover in an hour from Charing Cross station0

Agree with above - for that budget, you'll have to consider Medway Towns - pricey commute, though. Wouldn't hurt to look in and around Eltham - some cheaper properties to be found and much closer to London. Personally, would avoid Thamesmead, although it is quite near.
I expect you'll find yourself south of the river. Straight into Charing Cross so much easier (and cheaper) than north, generally.
Saying that, there are some cheaper places further out north like Luton, but the fares will be high.
You might want to type in 'London' or 'Kent' into RM then see what comes up once you set your search criteria. You could also try the 'drawing tool' on RM to choose how far you want to set the search parameters.

Agree with Medway on that budget.

Rochester is OK, but Chatham or Gillingham more realistic.

Maybe Dartford if you don't mind a flat. Loads of trains.Been away for a while.0 -

Aylesbury has a line which runs straight in to Marylebone in 60-68 minutes. I'm not sure what, if anything you could get for £100k in Aylesbury though. You'd be looking at 1 bed flats.0 -
i think you would be hard pushed to find something around 100k around eltham maybe medway though. Before you point fingers, make sure your hands are clean !;)0
