Don't forget, unless you have a DVD recorder and can burn a disc directly from the camera(Samsung?) output, you friends will probably need to to download and install the XviD codec in order to be able to view the video.
An alternative is to convert the Avi(Xvid) file to a file compatible with DVD players. That way they can play the video on any 'standalone' player.
Something like this will do the job; http://www.imtoo.com/divx-to-dvd-converter.html

Donnie to be honest I just realised I probably can't put it on a disc anyway. The friend i was talking about bought EXACTLY the same pc package at the same time as I did. The guy at Dell said we would be able to put footage on discs even although it's only a cd hard drive not dvd. He said we would only be able to watch it on the pc which is actually ok as that would do. I tried earlier and it comes up as photos but the photos are blank if you know what I mean(?) I tried in on a CD-R disc which the Dell bloke said was right. I'm just so pleased I got it on the computer anything else is a bonus!
Actually bought a dvd recorder a few days ago cause it had a port for dv camcorder. Got it home and realised it needed firewire cable (camera is usb) so obviously doesn't fit the camera after all that!! Maybe it's not meant to be!You may walk and you may run

What model is your camcorder? Is Firewire the only connection?
"I tried earlier and it comes up as photos but the photos are blank if you know what I mean(?)" Don't understand that bit.
You can also create VCDs or Super VCDs that can be played on any 'standalone' DVD player. All is not lost.0

Camcorder is a zennox 5660. I had a question last night (firewire/usb help) that pretty much explains about what I was on about the fire wire.
To shorten: Got dvd recorder cause i thought it would be easier to get footage on the discs via usb and port hole that the recorder has. Got recorder only to discover it is actually firewire it takes not usb so can't use my camera that way. Pc does not have firewire port either. Today managed to get footage on pc but it won't go on the cds that dell said it would (phoned them 3 times to ask!) All that happens when I put the cds back in to 'watch' on the pc it comes up as loads of white blank squares with no picture or movement and it went through coral paint shop or something. Although the computer is new it is very basic as it's my first one ie cd harddrive not dvd. I need to get 'with it'!!!!!!You may walk and you may run

Can't see any detailed specifications, but it states TV out. That usually means that you can connect it with Phono leads to a television or DVD recorder.
You can easily convert video to the MPEG format in order to create VCDs and SVCDs for friends.
So, it's just a matter of transferring the footage via card reader to the computer, converting the files and then burning them to CD. This is easily done with; http://www.zealot-soft.com/#video2discAmor AVI DivX MPEG to VCD SVCD DVD Creator & Burner can convert AVI, DIVX, WMV, RM, MOV, ASF and MPEG files to VCD, SVCD, DVD compatible MPEG files, then burn to video VCD, SVCD,DVD and burn them to a CD-R, CD+R, CD+RW, DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD+RW, and DVD-RW, With this software, you can create real VCDs, SVCDs, and DVDs so that you can play your movies on VCD or DVD player.

It's much simpler than it appears. You don't actually need any of the software that I've suggested. It just gives you more options. See my reply to your other query about USB/Firewire(You shouldn't need those connections either).
All you need is the TV Output Cable that came with your package in order to burn your recordings on your DVD recorder. It's the one with the red & white ends in the middle of the picture.
