That is definately a reason to have esure insurance as it wasn't the cheapest when i renewed.

One of my mates had the ability to drive any car third party only removed from his policy at last renewal which anniyed him.

I think you need to rethink what "inferred" means before reposting your old post mickey, it isn't just what you say but the way you say it.

I still think that your posted infered it was ok.

    This bit maybe?

"Check his polkicy doesn't have any terms like these"

And for the record, if you actually read the post, esure don't have this term, that's CSIS, who I moving to, as esure don't do it this way anymore.
So - Don't go to esure for this.

But surely the car needs to be insured anyway if you are driving it on the road, no matter what insurance you have, as I thought now, if a car has no insurance, it has to be SORN???

the car must be insured in its own right to drive it on your driving any other cars part of a policy. i've just been through this and just rang my current insurer and they sorted it all out for me. no charge either.

either case "assuming" a policy allows you to drive a vehicle is a no no check with YOUR insurer first.

just because you policy used to allow driving a car not insured mot or taxed in the past does not mean they will cover you now as like i have read my policy sumary the terms and conditions are subject to change without prior notice and are correct at time of printing april 2010(contained in very small print right at the bottom of the page) things can change in a year, hence why my certificate stipulates subject to terms and cons please call the service desk for more info or read the policy hand book thingy for more information. dont get me wrong but if stopped and a police officer reads this the first thing he's going to do is ring them to see what those terms are, and if your within your policy terms and conditions good if not its a trip on a flat bed for the car and your on foot with a ticket.

just to cover my a$$ everytime i venture out in someone elses pride and joy a quick ring to them doesnt cost the earth and could potentially save you money and a few points or ban.

i see both your points of veiw, but with insurers changing things up, its better to check the current terms over the phone (and if they have changed ask them for a new copy).

Also worth ringing up the insurance and asking their price for a "temporary additional vehicle". I know last time I did this it was something stupid like £7 for a week's insurance on a car that was owned in my name.

I used to abuse that facility massively when I was younger and owned two cheap unreliable bangers.

It'll be interesting when I take the car we're building for it's sva.

I'm insured to drive it third party, as I don't own it, but it will have no tax, no mot, no numberplates, and won't have a V5 as it's won't be registered.
The centre is about 40 miles each way.

(And like an mot, it is legal to drive to one of the national vosa centres, and drive back, pass or fail)

Maybe it could be easier to assume it'll pass, and just insure it on it's chassis number first.

I foresee lots of flashing lights and a few puffs of smoke in a server farm somewhere when you try that through the comparison sites :D

    Kit car insurance.
    Already had the quotes.
I have to admit I was surprised I could drive the car un-registered, as I planned to tralier it there initially, but it'll give the brakes a chance to bed in, and warm it up better for the emission tests.

It's an old kit car from the 70's I found on ebay, no paperwork, no chassis number, not running, that I am restoring.
