Is to prevent people insuring a small car and then driving something like a WRX or Evo.

I don't need to reread the thread mickey.

I still feel that even if esure allow driving of any car regardless of the other car having valid insurance it is still a sensible position to advise people that the vast majority don't.

This is a simple.fact, also there is the exclusion of the car not belonging to the policyholder also. In which case the OP is also not allowed to.drive.

I am not going to reinsure my car just to see if you are right, but if you say that is wyat it says then i shall take your word for it.

Though as most insurance is actually provided by another company to the one you sign up with then perhaps you coukd let us know what underwriter is mentioned on the certificate.

For example i was insured with Swinton last year and then with Santander this year but the Insurance certificate and therefore the actual Insurance is provided by Equity Red Star.

This is a common thing these days, so there may be a possibility that more Brokers provide this.

Why do yiu want the forum to turn into a !!!!ing contest mickey? Isn't debating in order to get the most accurate information out there for the benefit of all the forum members.

You seem to think i am upset that new information is being presented to me, not really true thouh i don't think asking for you to provide some extra info is such a bad thing.

But i can confirm that Admiral, Santander and Swinton don't provide this cover going by what i have be led to believe.

The reason that is always given when i have enquired, and yes i do check when i buy the Insurance,

He's right, no need to do that.

    True.
I just read the t&c's before I sign up.
Especially the exclusion about "cars not owned by yourself or your spouse", not just yourself nowadays is worth looking for.
The other pitfall is car based vans, these are never covered.

(And at least two out of the three on his list have covered me for driving other cars without any other insurance in the past 5 years)

I didn't say they didn't allow yiu to drive another persons car third party only.

I said they only let you do so if the other car has at least a third party insurance cover and isn't owned or hired to the person wanting to use them on the policy of another car third party only.

And all my previous insurers has specifically stated on the cert that you can only drive other cars third party.

But in the t&c it goes into more detail and adds in the part about not owning the car and the other car needing to be covered by it's own insurance.

Your inital post infered that all insurance companies allow third party cover on other cars, but as the other car also belongs to the OP then the only Insurance i have had in the last decade that would allow me to drive any car was my traders policy. But even then there were many stipulations such as having to inform the insurance company after a set period of time so that they could put the reg on mid.

I'll quote what I said in full for you again, even with the spelling mistake. Then I'm giving up.

You can drive it to the mot and back without tax, or present mot.
Depending on what your husbands policy says, if the car is in your name, he can drive it there if he has "driving other cars" on his policy.
Exclusions are now being put in stating "cars not owned by yourself or your spouse", and/or that the "car must have it's own insurance"

Check his polkicy doesn't have any terms like these and he'll be ok.
It's worth putting the paperwork in the car in case he's stopped though.

on my policy it says shall drive another vehicle under third party cover the vehicle must not be, higher than a 1.6cc, must not be modified, changed or altered from manufacturers specifacations, must not be a re-registered vehicle (Q PLATE),be a car derrived van, or LGV, hired, leased, or owned/registered at the same property or be used for commuting or buisiness use. for more information please refure to your terms and conditions of your policy or call our customer service desk (terms and conditions are subject to change at any time).

EDIT: just scaned through the jargon and in my terms and conditions of driving other vehicles it sates further:

the vehicle must have valid tax, must have a minimum of third party cover, hold a valid MOT certificate.

also states something about spouses and civil partnerships not being able to drive, under drive other vehicles.

    That's the New International Version.

My old Norwich Union policy is King James Version:
"And the LORD our God said unto His motorists, Thou shalt not driveth thy neighbour's carriage, nor rideth his ox, nor his ass, nor anything that is thy neighbour's, if thou hath no insurance of thine own.

And then the LORD our God spake unto His insured, saying, Ye have dwelt long enough in this den of underwriting thieves. Ye shall be rewardeth with full NCD in the Kingdom of Heaven.

I just have the simple version, or will have shortly, my present one doesn't have the exclusion of the spouses car, this one will have. Only applies to UK use as well.
"If you want to drive another car
Your policy may cover you, only, for driving other cars which do not belong to you (provided your certificate of insurance shows that you have this cover). However, cover is restricted to third party liability only and does not provide cover for loss or damage to other cars you are driving.
The Driving Other cars cover to this policy does not apply to any car belonging to your partner.
This limited cover can be very useful in an emergency, but if you are planning to drive someone else’s car regularly you should be named on their insurance policy."

That is definately a reason to have esure insurance as it wasn't the cheapest when i renewed.

One of my mates had the ability to drive any car third party only removed from his policy at last renewal which anniyed him.

I think you need to rethink what "inferred" means before reposting your old post mickey, it isn't just what you say but the way you say it.

I still think that your posted infered it was ok.
