The best-paying savings a/c was ING Direct. Very simple, very straightforward, 4.7% interest. But it has now been overtaken by Alliance & Leicester's Plus Saver.0

A kind of variation on a theme, but my mum (60 next year) and her neighbour signed up recently to Powergen through Age Concern (https://www.ageconcern.co.uk). Not only was her gas and electric alot cheaper but she got free low energy lightbulbs (which as an aside are ridiculous cheap in Ikea if you ever need any!), free carbon monoxide detector, free early warning hyperthermia detector and cold weather payments in addition to those the Government pay out if the temperature drops below 0 degrees.
Also when my mum turns 60 shes entitled to get her roof lagged and all sorts of other things by the Government through the local authority which are worth bearing in mind by any of you nudging that direction (or already are).
Hope this is of some use.0 -
A thought for all silver savers.
Remember It's not old age that stops you doing things. It's not doing things that brings on old age!0 -
I've done as little as possible all my life. so I don't get worn out ;D0

What's this over 50's ageist rubbish ? Just done 30 odd miles on the mountain bike-some of it steep hills-and my 25 year old partner say's im as good at the old humpty-dumpty as blokes her age!-im 51.
Anyway, what about an over-50's credit card with a few extra perks in recognition of how much more responsible and stable we are than many of the younger generation ?
My car insurance is now cheaper etc. so what about it card company's ?0 -
I agree with you. We've done our bit paying taxes etc for years. I'd like a rebate for NOT having children and draining education resources etc!!! :-/0

Being new to Money Saving Expert (by the way Martin are you the handsome man who has been on TV with money saving tips?) please forgive me if this has already been mentioned.
When searching for a European Multi Trip Policy, I have found several at about 40 to 50 pounds e.g Atlas with age group 18 to 65 inclusive which proves that the bargains are there if you have the patience to look!0 -
