Could also be time for you all to mind your own biz. There is no scam - no price to bid as per the reply from a query. It's just badly worded. 17 bids shows you enough people have either had the same reply, or just bid without problem. He's asking for a deposit from the winner.

Actually he is insisting from a deposit from every person who wishes to bid, not just the winner.

It is a policy breach but thinking about this logically if a person bids and refuses to pay the deposit the worst that can happen is that their bid gets removed. Whilst I don't like silly terms and conditions this is not a hidden one, anyone bidding is either happy or daft enough to believe the nonsense. I would rather ebay concentrated on the real scammers.
