Just thought I'd put that in, that these things cause accidents.

No they don't. Morons not knowing what speed they're doing or exceeding the limit and slamming on needlessly causing other morons driving too close is what causes accidents where cameras and camera vans are..

    Or "yes they can".

It is a natural reaction for some drivers. They see a camera van and automatically brake without a clue to what speed they're doing and no idea if anything is following. We all know were the fault lies but 3 miles over the speed limit seems to be a greater concern to the authorities than driving too close or in a daze:mad:
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed

How many driving at or under the speed limit were forced to brake heavily due their presence?

Only very thick, stupid and inattentive drivers would do that. If they were aware of their speed, as they should be, there would be no need to brake heavily or suddenly.
The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark

Well I know I did, even though I was doing 50 I immediately pressed the anchors, as I did so I glanced at the speedo (51mph). The first thing I do is press the brakes I can check my speed after I do that, this saves time and can be the difference between a ticket and no ticket. Brake now ask qu's later.
You should always be aware of your speed, that is what you are taught by your driving instructor, when you learn to drive.
This can then have a knock on effect with a people behind braking and eventually someone behind being unable to stop in time. So innocent drivers who are not speeding end up getting hit from behind, all because of a poorly positioned scamera (assuming there is such a thing as a well positioned scamera).

That is your fault as much as theirs. If you didn't slam your brakes on, there would be no violent and sudden reaction from drivers behind you. If they were keeping a safe distance and travelling within the prescribed speed limits, there would be no need for them to brake at all.

Funnily enough, the speedo is the last thing I look at when slamming the brakes on.

But you should be aware of your speed, before you need to apply the brakes in the first place.

Every day for the last 3 years the same stretch of road has been free of incidents. Put a scamera van there for a few hours and you get people suddenly braking and causing skid marks on the road and possible accidents.

There is a cause and effect here which the holier than thou's cannot deny.

the cause being inattentive drivers and the effect being skid marks, as already said, if you are not speeding then there is no need to slow down for a speed camera. simple as that.

Strange then that in the absence of the camera none of this ever occurs.

And I don't agree with the blue light comment. When there is a blue light & siren EVERYONE is immediately aware of the situation, and everyone is on alert and will lift off the accelerator if necessary, and will lookout for the idiot infront doing something stupid.

I personally have never witnessed anyone slamming brakes on and causing near misses. What I have seen is people who brake and pull in to inapproprite places but the people behind were already on alert and have not been in any danger, yes I have seen and had to brake myself because the person infront does something stupid, but as I was already on alert I was able to brake safely/keep my distance and drive around them.

However I don't deny that it probably does happen sometimes. The point being I think generally bluelights & sirens cause controlled chaos, whilst scamera vans just cause chaos & it is dangerous chaos.

maybe so in a town, but out on the open road it is a very different situation.

People come across blue lights...and they panic.

That is the only description I can think of.

either that, or they're up themselves with self-righteous morality.
No, I don't think all other drivers are idiots......but some are determined to change my mind.......
