I don't believe I said anything to the contrary.

And I remarked that it doesn't take much to glance at your speedometer. If one just glances at their speedometer occasionally, they will not be spending more time watching it than driving, will they.

You're missing a question mark there.

If one merely glances down at the speedometer then there's no problem, the problem arises when people's gaze begins to linger on the speedometer because, rather than the road conditions, their primary concern becomes holding their vehicle at a specific speed.

Through your own misunderstanding of my point you seem to be creating a disagreement where one doesn't exist.

No I am not. The sentence is a statement, ending with an rhetorical query, thus not expecting an answer.

Then they shouldn't be driving, should they.

    (Note the rhetoric ;))

There is one fool-proofed guaranteed way of achieving this,.....what do you think that might be?

Drive erratically at between 25 and 55mph on the A68 for miles and miles, increasing speed for the areas where you could otherwise be overtaken?

Fool-proof, absolutely. Safe? Hmmm. The convoy of irate drivers behind may say different.

Well.....how about, conforming to the conditions of the road and staying within the speed limit; that would be the best answer, don't you think?

and where else would a thinking driver consider increasing their speed, if not where the road was clearer.....and possibly more suitable for overtaking?

Convoys occur because those up front fail to overtake at the appropriate time or place.

Maybe they don't wish to overtake?

This is what causes anger amongst drivers further back in the convoy.....not the lead vehicle!

If the driver in front is proceeding at a pace one is happy with, then drop back a bit to leave extra room , for those who wish to go faster, to pass and pull in if necessary, before they tackle the next vehicle in line.

But will that happen? no way....every body drives along tight up the backside of the vehicle in front...

'Roughly' is what seems to be worrying people, especially where cameras are located.

Observing the speedo is part and parcel of a driver's complete observation routine...far distance, middle distance, foreground right side mirror, left side mirror, speedo and so on....so would be noted approx every 5 to 8 seconds...

or does everybody drive along staring out of the windscreen, hoping against hope that they see a problem developing before they hit it?
