People not going over the limit do have something to worry about if people are driving erratically in front of them due to speed camera vans.
The police wouldn't walk up and try to arrest a bank robber while he was sticking his gun in the cashiers face, so why is springing speed traps out on people hurtling along at 80mph in a tonne of metal considered a better idea?0 -
About 10 people a day die on our roads, none seem to be killed by stationary cars so speed has to play its part.
Get some balls and accept when you have/are doing something wrong and stop bleating everytime someone tries to prevent this unnecesary loss of life.
No speed prevention is perfect except for your right foot.
The technology is available to have every vehicle manufactured after a certain date to be GPS speed limited, but they won't do it...
This near perfect system would over a few years, cut a lot of the speeding related deaths, and would also deprive the government of a significant revenue.
Why do you think they don't do it?0 -

Because the car people would scream and shout, and jump up and down about the Government not letting them do what they want...
Just like they've complained about the mention of things like mileage based road tax, or insurance, or the black boxes some car manufacturers are putting in cars to monitor faults, which happen to also record things like the speed when certain events occur.
Also these "near perfect" systems aren't perfect - a lot of GPS receivers can/do get confused when you pass under an overpass, or go on an overpass crossing a road with a different speed limit, which could have catastrophic effects if it was linked to the brakes of a car, and would require constant updating to maintain the road network + all speed limit changes, which would be problematic (IIRC my tomtom when it updates gets about a 100mb file).
Personally I think anyone who doesn't know roughly what speed they are doing when driving, and panics at the mere sight of a speed camera has two options.
1: Get a bus down to the local DVLA office and hand their licence over.
2: Get some remedial driving instruction.
I'm not a great driver by any means of the imagination, but I do maintain situational awareness - including things like knowing what speed I'm doing, and the positions of other road users/pedestrians.
Knowing what speed you're doing is a very basic and simple part of driving, and not exactly rocket science, besides the speedo which depending on the car you can monitor out of the "corner"of your eye, if you drive the same car on a regular basis you should be able to get to know roughly your speed from the feel/sound of the engine and your gear.
It's one of those things that you should be aware of at the same level as things like what is in the rear view/wing mirrors.0 -
You haven't read NOTSO then? I don't panic, I just don't want any chance of a ticket.0

Unless you have switched bodies with Clever Username, I didn't say you had.The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark0 -

There is one fool-proofed guaranteed way of achieving this,.....what do you think that might be?The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark0 -
Eh? ......................
I thought it was someone else.
