scamera van caused near miss/accident

Driving to work yesterday on a stretch of dual carriageway 50mph where there is never any speed traps, came round a corner and saw a scamera van 200 yds ahead. I was in the nearside lane doing 50 so no problem for me, others in the outside lane braking sharply.

On a side note I don't see that the scamera would have enough time to focus on the cars in the outside lane given that they only came into view 200 yds away. Maybe it was just supposed to be a deterrant.

Today went to work in the same place just around the corner nearside lane big recent skid marks which I put down to yesterdays positioning of the scamera van.

Just thought I'd put that in, that these things cause accidents.

How many driving at or under the speed limit were forced to brake heavily due their presence?

Well I know I did, even though I was doing 50 I immediately pressed the anchors, as I did so I glanced at the speedo (51mph). The first thing I do is press the brakes I can check my speed after I do that, this saves time and can be the difference between a ticket and no ticket. Brake now ask qu's later.

This can then have a knock on effect with a people behind braking and eventually someone behind being unable to stop in time. So innocent drivers who are not speeding end up getting hit from behind, all because of a poorly positioned scamera (assuming there is such a thing as a well positioned scamera).

Well in a sense it's not poorly placed but ideally situated to catch speeders before they have time to slow down

But yes there can be unfortunate side effects

So people who know they are doing the speed limit or under dont really have nothing to worry about do they. Its the people who are speeding who are the ones who are going to cause the accidents isnt it because they are breaking the law and going to fast.

if you were doing the proper speed then there would be no reason to hit the brakes, the speedo is not just there to look at when you see a speed camera.

Funnily enough, the speedo is the last thing I look at when slamming the brakes on.

Also, strangely enough, I find the same problem occurs whenever there is an oncoming emergency vehicle..ambulance and such like....even though it has a clear road in front of it, and is coming towards, not behind...I find the road ahead suddenly populated by over-zealous drama queens who screech to a halt trying to climb the verge........no logical 'driving' reason for them to behave so....and the emergency vehicle driver would have been trained to cope with traffic, so needs little if any 'help' from others in order to make progress...

so, in the same way a camera van is being heralded as creating a danger, so are emergency vehicles with blue lights, so let's ban them as well?
No, I don't think all other drivers are idiots......but some are determined to change my mind.......

I've seen these idiots sat on the central reservation of a dual carriageway, just past a bend. Utter carnage was only barely avoided when they knocked off and had to pull into the right hand lane before acclerating up to speed.

As said above, if people didn't speed then there would be no need for any drivers to slam their brakes on because of seeing the camera :)

My car has cruise control, I pop that on whenever I get to places that are like 50, 60 or 70mph speeds (traffic permiting!) and especially in average speed zones.. if people wanna go flying past me crack on :)
