Icemoose,
It took us about 3 weeks before we heard back from Natwest regarding our Step account but we did have to chase it up. Neither my hubby or I were undischarged bankrupts either.
No harm in chasing them, Natwest aren't the fastest bank in the world in my experience.

Thank you sgx.saint.
I have just applied to Natwest for their Step account. It was quickly done online and has been agreed.
I'm so angry with Lloyds TSB right now as they have just charged me over £100. They said they sent a letter to me a couple of weeks ago to tell me about the charges but they hadn't!
I'm now going to try and reclaim my charges.
When I spoke to Lloyds they told me there was no way I could get the charges back as they are allowed to charge and because it's my fault I have no hope of getting them back.
I'm going to try anyway!0 -
Go Kelly!
You have EVERY right to get these charges back, you'll find the forum below this one 'Reclaiming Bank Charges' really helpful, I couldn't have done it without the advice from the members on there.
Best of luck.£2 Coin Savers Club (Christmas)- £86£1 Jar (Christmas)- £29Christmas Vouchers Saved: £1450 -

Been quite happy with Yorkshire Bank since I opened the account - until yesterday.
Went to draw out some cash (plenty there, I'd checked online earlier and had well over a grand) but the NW cashpoint said service unavailable. Went to Nationwide and woman in front said "bloody Yorkshire Bank" as she walked away cashless from the machine.
Same for me.
Tried ringing and got to hear a message telling me that they couldn't take any calls as they were too busy!!!
Fortunately I had other bank accounts so took some cash (only £50) from one of those.
Checked account this morning, balance still same as yesterday. Just got back from running kids to music club, stopped at cashpoint and checked balance then withdrew £50, fine no problem.
Just tried to register debit card for top-ups with Virgin mobile and they declined the card!!!!
Ran YB and they said they were locked out in the Telephone centre yesterday, no access to the network at all, and there were cash machine and Maestro problems as well, but they were sure everything was all ok today and could see no reason for the declined transaction.
Apologised but they said nothing else they could do.
Frankly I'm very disappointed that everything falls over. From a technology point of view, they must have a very poor set-up with no resilience nor fail-over in case of problems.
I think this reinforces the message that everyone needs to have back-up plans for access to funds.
Now I'm really hacked off!!

Hi, trying to use my Maestro card online and it's telling me the card might be invalid?
On top of not having any money yesterday this is the last straw.
As Banks are quite happy charging us for failing to jump through hoops, I'm now going to charge you for denying me access to my money.
Yesterday afternoon I tried to withdraw £50 from my account (a balance of over £1200), only for the Nationwide machine to tell me the service was unavailable. I went to Natwest and LloydsTSB thinking it might be the Nationwide's link was down but no, they all responded the same. The lady in front of me also left a cash machine cashless, saying "bloody Yorkshire Bank" - I used a different verb.
I drew £50 today, and checked the balance - everything good.
I phoned Virgin mobile to register my card for top-up's. They DECLINED the card!!!
I've just tried to use it online and again it's telling me "It looks as though this card is not valid".
So for the inconvenience of calling your Telephone Centre who confirmed all the problems yesterday and couldn't say whether the Maestro system was up or down, I'm claiming the following:
Items returned unpaid @ £35 each = 3 x cash withdrawal attempts
Debit card abuse fee @ £35 each = 2 x declined Maestro transactions.
Collections Department fee £30 = For time spent trying to find out why I can't get at my money.
Regards"

LOL... Can't wait to see their reply.
Have you thought about citibank?0 -
These problems were happening with Clydesdale Bank's Maestro cards yesterday too. (who obviously use the same networks as Yorkshire Bank since it is the same company)
Don't know if it's sorted now or not......
As for demanding charges - remember a debit card is a privelege not a right and you could easily withdraw cash in-branch......0 -

Hi all , am a newbie here , but been lurking around for a couple of weeks.lol.Hubby has a step account with natwest , which he has held for about 5 years. Obviously we've had huge money problems in the past , but we're getting past that , both working etc.We got car finance and a personal loan from another lender ,which we took out largely to improve our credit score , and have been very careful not to have any unpaid DD's etc on the account , and both wages , wftc's etc all going into that account.Natwest have repeatedly told us in the past that keeping our account "clean" would enable us to upgrade to a current account , but despite all this they still refuse to let us upgrade , and every time we ask , they do a credit check , which as i understand , will be logged on our file as failed. I'm all for telling them where to shove it , but hub is loathe to leave because of the solo debit card which he doed lots of internet buying with , and is worried that another account elsewhere would only give us the visa electron , which isnt accepted widely.
Any advice??
Thanks in advance , sam.:T Thanks to all the comps posters :T0
