Sorry, not read all the posts, but wanted to update as I asked a question on Basic Bank accounts earlier.
Lloyds TSB have accepted my Grandson for a Basic Bank account with just his Passport as evidence .
He doesn't have anything like utility bills in his name, so we were finding it difficult to get a bank to acept him without such security.
Thankfully all sorted now.0 -
Hi, i got turned down for a natwest step account a coulple of weeks ago, they couldn tell me why!!! I aleady informed thm of my poor credit rating. Anyway applied for a citibank access account last week and this morning got a letter saying i have been provisionly approved, just need to send off council tax bill to confirm my name and address. Hopefully this is a step in the right direction to geting a debit card!:D
Hi
I applied for citibank also, However once you send them id they then do the credit checks as people have said on here. I have not sent mine off as i have poor credit and dont want to have more on my file.
Will you let us know if you were successfull in getting a citibank account, as then i may send my ID off and try.
Good luck0 -

Hi there,
I've just applied for a Citibank account and am hoping they say yes. Do you mind me asking if you have heard yet? How long does it take for things to work their way through the system?
Thanks,

Hiya Proliant, I really would of liked the basic account with LTSB, one thing, there is branch very close by and I think the Visa Debit card is more useful than my Maestro which I have with the Yorkshire Bank!
I applied for the LTSB basic account in March, got declined, I have no Fraud and I've been discharged form bankruptcy for a few years.
I have sent them a letter ( a bit late) saying I feel their brochure on the Basic Account is rather ambiguous, as it does say: as long as you have no history of Fraud and not an undischarged bankrupt you should be accepted? See what they say, I wrote to their customer relations dept in London.

I made an appointment to open a Personal Access account with Northern Bank (their basic account). They told me to bring two forms of ID and my last three months of bank statements with me. It offers a Maestro card, which is the main reason I'm applying for it.
Have any of our members from Northern Ireland had any luck applying for this account? I've just found out I'm not on the electoral register, so I'm a bit worried that will affect my application. I've sent off for the forms to register, but it will be 7 weeks or so until I'm added. I'm on the 2007 register, but I guess I neglected to renew.
Their website says that credit services are subject to status, and I'm not applying for any credit, so I'm hoping that means they're not going to credit score me.0 -
My client needs to open a basic bank account to have her state and private pension paid into but it needs to not have any affiliation to Barclays. Does anyone know which banks are not linked that also offer basic accounts?"I've fallen down a hole" - said in best Monty Python voice-over.0

Hi there everyone,
I would like a little advice on a good Basic Account that offers a debit card.
I am currently with Barclays (and have been since I was 18, so almost 5 years) but they do not offer me a debit card. They suggested opening a joint account with my partner, but I really dont want that extra hassle just for a DC!. To be honest, Im happy to be with Barclays because they are our local bank (only one in our town, although only a short distance away there are more options) and I never spend more than I have or have enough to really worry about very competitive interest rates. Again, its just the DC issue.
I am a non working Mother, so the only money I get are Tax Credits and Child Benefit, which amount to a little over £250 per month. Barclays will not offer me a current account on this (understandably).
I have a few DDs that would need switching, but Im assuming it'd be easier for me to do that myself?
I need a debit card, so that I can pay for my online things. They are fairly small amounts. Paid in USD, but converted to GBP (about £10 total). It would also be nice to have one so that any other "online shopping" I would want to do can be done directly from me, without having to ask my partner - or even Mum! - to do it.
I do have PayPal, but the two things I pay for online do not accept PP, sadly.
Also, if anyone actually knows of a Current Account that would actually take me that'd be appreciated too. However, as long as I can have a Debit Card, Im fine!
Thanks for reading and hope someone has a bit of help.0
