i have a coop cashminder account. i opened this account over the phone about 3 years ago. i filled out a form to change from a sole account to a joint account. i called them today as not heard anything and they said they had declined the application due to having bad credit. i thought with it being a cash minder account that was already down as a basic bank account0

Hi, for the past month i have been trying to get an appointment with Barclays to discuss opening an account, after three weeks of my requests being ignored,( and sitting by the phone waiting as i had been told within 24 hrs i would be called, it took one week , this happened 3 times.) i manage to land a appointment. I had all my letters from utility bills and DWP in hand only to be told my conformation of benefit letter was not acceptable due to it being on non white paper ( its on recycled i think), can this really be true???
Very disappointed :mad::eek:0 -

no that's not true they are just being awkward! i would go in and complain, they have a ID help desk that they refer too if they are unsure as to if it would be acceptable.
it has to be current (within the last 3 months usually), show the amount and frequency of your benefit payments and show your national insurance number. the type of paper the benefits office use is irrelevant .
that is unless its changed massively recently since i worked in banking
hope this helps0 -
Thanx for the info, i did think it was a little silly and i will take it further, thanx again0

I'm after a second basic account to get paid for rental money as my mortgage lender will not allow renting unfortunately and i had no choice but to rent out the property until my fixed rate expires in 18 months time... I've had the property for a number of years and has only been rented out recently as it wasn't purchased for renting!
Could someone please recommend a basic second account that i can manage online and does not require an encyclopedia of forms or credit checks!
Thanks in advance0 -
Not sure if I am posting in the right place but I am looking for some advice as my nineteen yr old daughter went into her bank on thursday to lift some money out as she is waiting on a new card. At the counter she was told she had to upgrade her account as she was now over nineteen and the account she had was for under nineteens. She said she would rather wait and discuss it with a family member who works within the bank but was told it was fine and they could deal with it there and then, her and her partner were ushered into a room with a man who they are not sure who he was as he didnt have a name badge on.
Once in room they were told that his computer was going to slow and asked to go to another room where another male employee (also without badge ) would deal with there account.
They were asked if they owned a mobile on replying yes he asked if they had insurance when they said no he offered them an account that would give them insurance for their phone (as they are both rather nieve ) they thought this was a good account which it is if you have a good job and would be able to benifit from all the add on's but as they have very low income and probably couldnt even afford the excess not very geared for them .
On speaking to my daughter later she told me about the change and I asked if that not going to cost them and read the paper work where I showed them that it would cost a monthly fee which they were not aware of. Every penny counts to them as they have two small children and surviving on a very low income.
Have we grounds for a formal complaint about miss selling a product. Should the bank not be ensuring that the products suit the customer rather than it suiting the bank.
Hoping for some guidance thank you0 -
With respect, your daughter is old enough to say no. All she needs to do is call the bank, and advise that she wants to change to a no monthly charge product.0

I presented a couple of cheques today and was told by the cashier that in future they might not be able to accept those that do not have my exact name on them. seems fair enough.
However I receive cheques in my name of Mr M Surname or Matt Surname ... or Matthew Surname.
Now they say they can only accept cheques made payable to Mr M Surname or Matthew Surname and not the Matt Surname.
All very noble, but surely if security is their aim the most ambiguous name is the Mr M rather than the Matt.
The reason I ask is that I can have quite a number of cheques to cash and those paying me are likely to use the Matthew or Matt scenario.
Just wondered what you thought ?
Thank you.
